You can’t pass on what you don’t have. That’s why leaders inevitably fail when they say “Do as I say, not as I do.” Because, whatever we may say, we pass on what we do have. Emerson said it well when he observed, “Who you are [what you do] speaks so loudly, I cannot hear what you say.” I can only hear (believe) what you say when you’re walking your talk. Leadercast Women 2018 takes place on October 12, 2018 at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta. No, it isn’t a “women only” event. Men and women are both welcome. But the speakers are all women. Sisters Barbara Bush… Read more »

This post about Kingdom Persecution is not technically about Christian business owners. It is about CEO’s of another sort — police chiefs, sheriffs, fire chiefs and their departments. And it’s about their growing interest in a service Christian business owners have long revered: Corporate (or in this case, law enforcement) chaplains. A growing number are investing in professional chaplain services to assist first responders on the beat and on the street. To help the responders and victims of crime / trauma. Corporate chaplaincy, as part of an Employee Assistance Program, yields numerous tangible and intangible benefits: Greater morale. Stronger teamwork. Increased productivity. Greater awareness of ethics in the workplace limiting theft, waste,… Read more »

Buying a car is just about my least favorite thing to do. Can anyone relate? I have often left that transaction feeling deceived, manipulated and/or just plain robbed. With too much of my hard-earned money left “on the table.” Because I wasn’t informed, wise or adept enough to find a true “win-win” outcome. I hate feeling like I’m left holding the short end of the stick. How about you? I just discovered a car dealer I would be inclined to trust. Roger Burdick. Not that I will ever actually do business with him. He and his family own Driver’s Village — New York State’s largest automotive megacenter, located in Syracuse…. Read more »

Lord, Lord, Lord… These are times that try — i.e., test, challenge — our souls like never before. As a culture, we have been drifting (running?) away from You for decades. Our values (and hearts) shifting away from what You hold dear so we can embrace what we desire apart from You. Why are we surprised when we see what fills our headlines — and breaks our hearts — on a daily basis? I recently talked with a dear brother in Christ. A pastor, actually. He was discussing one of the major shifts taking place in our culture. An issue of sexuality.. and how to find unity where there is… Read more »

I was too exhausted last night to write this Kingdom Power blog. After the Senate Judiciary Committee’s Kavanaugh hearings and pre-vote deliberations. But today… Don Quixote always had more of my heart than his sidekick, Sancho Pansa. Both were unworkable, undesirable extremes. The Poetic Idealist and the Practical Realist on steroids. Wasn’t that the whole point? That the real Sweet Spot for humanity combines the two? Seeing the best in others without denying their flaws? Channeling the power of Vision and Hope to rise above present and perceived limitations? But truly abundant living requires so much more than Positive Thinking laced with neuroscience and psychology. We need to experience and… Read more »

Rod Dreher — in his book, The Benedict Option: A Strategy for Christians in a Post-Christian Nation — wrote: “Post-Obergefell, Christians who hold to… biblical teaching about sex and marriage have the same status in culture, and increasingly in law, as racists. The culture war that began with the Sexual Revolution in the 1960s has now ended in defeat for Christian conservatives… Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI foretells a world in which the church will live in small circles of committed believers who live the faith intensely, and who will have to be somewhat cut off from mainstream society for the sake of holding on to the truth.” (Kindle edition, pp. 3,4)… Read more »

Who do you know whose entrepreneurial legacy began at the age of eight? David Thomas, founder and CEO of Wendy’s. When he was just eight, he dreamed he would run the best restaurant in the world. Before his death at age 69, he did everything he could to bring that dream to life. One source says Dave will be remembered as “one of the best Christian business owners in history.”  http://www.mademan.com/mm/10-best-christian-business-leaders.html Pretty amazing for a man who never knew his birth mom. He was adopted at six weeks old by Rex and Auleva Thomas. His adopted mom then died when he was five. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dave_Thomas_%28businessman%29 Maybe that’s how the seed that would… Read more »

He isn’t the greatest Major League Baseball player… yet. He’s playing for the Class Double-A Rumble Ponies in Binghamton, NY. He’s aiming for the NY Mets. He was once considered the best college football player in the nation, winning the often-coveted Heisman trophy. And he did once accomplish a sports miracle… quarterbacking the Denver Broncos to unlikely last-minute victories and a breathtaking overtime playoff win. But none of that really matters to Tim Tebow. “If I’m not remembered for baseball, that’s OK. If I’m not remembered for football, that’s OK, too. Actually, it’s fine if I’m not remembered at all. What I want is to serve God by helping people… Read more »

Part of the Affordable Care Act (“Obamacare”) has been challenged by Christian business owners. In particular, those seeking an exemption from what has been called the Abortion Pill Mandate. The Mandate requires businesses to provide employees with health coverage that includes abortion-inducing drugs. Whether or not the business owners have a faith-based objection. But the highest court in the land – the U.S. Supreme Court – ruled in favor of closely-held businesses whose Christian owners have religious objections to this provision. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burwell_v._Hobby_Lobby_Stores,_Inc. Leading the victors to shout for joy! But a different kind of shout emerged recently from one highly-successful business owner. Who exercised her vast influence in support of abortion.
