I was at the Southwest Florida Reading Festival in Ft. Myers, Florida yesterday. A “big deal” annual event drawing 20,000 people.
I hadn’t known it even existed before about ten days ago. Until You invited me, Lord. Because You had arranged three Divine Appointments there for me.
I only knew in advance about the first one.
I had been invited to the Festival by our local Books-a-Million GM, to meet their District Manager. Unbeknownst to me, You apparently have a plan for them to help launch my new book with a book signing event.
It must be Your plan, Lord. Because the idea had never occurred to me… and, suddenly, it appeared and took off! Will it happen? I don’t know… but You know the plans You have, Lord. And I DO know Your plans will not be thwarted!
While waiting to meet the District Manager, I went to the first author presentation. (There were lots of best-selling authors there from around the country, giving presentations and signing books.) She was sharing the podium with another author… someone she hadn’t met before.
I noticed her countenance, Lord. She affirmed the other author… then ever-so-gently turned every question into an opportunity to shine Your Light. She didn’t preach… she just graciously said what she believes and how that has helped her through life.
She’s famous… even the subject of a major film. Famous because of challenge, blended with tragedy. You have given her an amazing platform, Lord. And she is using that platform — to draw people to You.
That’s when You whispered to me: “Go encourage her.” And that’s when You reminded me: I had been in a bookstore just ten days earlier. I had her book in my hand and was about to buy it… until You whispered: “Wait.”
At the time, I didn’t know this Reading Festival even existed. Or that You would invite me to be there. Or that You would send me from hundreds of miles away to encourage a Forever Sister who is boldly being Your Ambassador.
Just two hours later, I met my third Divine Appointment. Another best-selling, award-winning author. Another Forever Sister You had sent me to encourage. But this time, You had a Gift planned for me.
She writes fiction – 25 novels, to date! And fiction is what she loves to read. But lately, You are stirring her to read non-fiction…. especially, inspirational books by people who have overcome much in Life.
That’s when it became obvious. You want her to read the book You have birthed in me. So she asked me for it… and gave me her address.
What are You “up to,” Lord? I often don’t know… but I always love the Adventure of Discovery that Life becomes as I/we follow wherever You lead!
“Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us, to Him be glory…” (Ephesians 3:20)
