What if I had not lost my childhood innocence at age 9?
What if I had not stopped my abuser with a hot iron to his face?
What if I had not worked so hard to get good grades, to prove I really was worth something?
What if I had agreed with my high school guidance counselor when she told me I was not college material?
What if I had said “yes” to dance on the national TV show hosted by Bob Hope, instead of starting college?
What if I had not started to drink so heavily in college… to kill pain?
What if I had joined the very wrong crowd I was tempted to join after college?
What if I had looked for Love in The Right Place, instead of all the wrong places?
What if I had kept my baby instead of making her another victim of Roe v. Wade?
What if I had not heard Your whisper of Hope, Lord, that kept me from taking my own life?
What if I had gone back under my first husband’s “thumb,” where he said I “belonged”?
What if I had died in that auto accident… before I came to know You?
What if… ???
The Roads Not Taken. The Roads I Am On Now. The Roads That Are Yet To Come.
And You, Lord. The One…
… who was always there, even when I had no clue.
… who kept me alive, one breath at a time.
… who made A Way whenever there was no way.
… who turned my mourning into dancing.
… who took even the worst and made it into Something Great.
… who said, “Come, follow Me” and helped me keep up.
… who showed me, and shows me, and forever will show me True Love.
“I love You, Lord, my Strength. The Lord is my Rock, my Fortress, my Deliverer; my God is my Rock, in whom I take Refuge, my Shield and the horn of my Salvation, my Stronghold… He reached down from on high and took hold of me; He drew me out of deep waters. He rescued me… because He delighted in me.” (Psalm 18:1-2,16,19)
