Wrestling Match of The Ages

A lot of people are struggling right now… aren’t they, Lord?  Struggling with the world as it is, yes.  But even more so, struggling with the weight of their past decisions.  Wrestling with regrets.  Wanting to make the “wrongs” Right.

Or, at least, to find Forgiveness.  Even Reconciliation.

I spoke with several such people recently.  People who sense their life in this world is nearing its end. They see the “sand” pass through their appointed “hourglass” with increasing velocity.  Prompting those gnawing questions…

What would I change, if I could?  Is it too late for me?  What does The Future hold?  Do the Answers really matter?

These struggles are from You… aren’t they, Lord?

With persevering Love, You are stirring hearts that have kept their distance from You for decades. People who were determined to make their own way.  To chart their own course.  Come Hell or High Water.

But You’re not satisfied to leave them there… are You?  So, You’re pressing in… making the weight of those past regrets even heavier.  Hoping that, one day soon, they will break.

So You can pick up their pieces.  And make them more whole than they’ve ever been before.

“He has sent Me to bind up the brokenhearted…”  (Isaiah 61:1)

One person I know has spent many, many Sundays in church.  Attending… up to a point.  One foot on The Rock and one foot in the “dinghy” of a life that remains in a stormy sea.  One foot in, one foot out.

A recipe for Disaster.

Why?  Because they “like” You.  They even “respect” and “admire” You.  But they have never accepted You as their Savior.  I’m not guessing.  They said it out loud.

By Your Grace, You opened the door for me recently with one such dear soul.  In a crowded, public place filled with strangers.  It was as if the whole Universe stood still and all the angels in Heaven held their collective breath.

Such words You gave me, Lord!  Words of Clarity — boldly declaring who You are and what Your Gospel really means.  Words of Compassion — gently exposing the fears that have served as chains, hindering this particular heart from surrendering to You.  Words of Courage — passionately exhorting this one You love so much to choose You while there is still time.

And now… I pray.  With great thanksgiving.  For the Relentlessness of Your Spirit.  For the Generosity of Your Mercy.  For the Steadfastness of Your Love.  For the Truth of Your Word.  For the Power of Your Presence.

And for the Eternity of Blessing that awaits all who will say “Yes” to You.

“Seek the Lord while He may be found; call on Him while He is near… turn to the Lord, and He will have mercy… for He will freely pardon.”  (Isaiah 55:6-7)

Praying for so many, Lord…

… longing for their walls to fall…

… so You can come in.

“With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”  (Matthew 19:26)

Hopefully,
