The Purr-fect Wake Up Call

Oh, Abba… This isn’t a deeply profound post.  It’s just a simple expression of my heartfelt thanks to You… for Your simple expression of Your heartfelt love for me.

You prove it every day… even in the smallest details which might otherwise escape notice.

Saturdays have been arriving very early lately. Today was Week 7 in our training program for the Madison 4-Miler — our local fundraiser for our closest cancer care center at the University of Virginia.

So for me, every Saturday has meant getting up at 6 AM so I can leave the house by 6:30 AM and arrive at our training at 7 AM.

And here’s the thing:  I can’t figure out what the problem is with my alarm clock.  I understand perfectly how to set it… at least I thought I did.  I have certainly used it often enough, without any problems.

Until the past seven weeks.

I have set it every Friday night for Saturday morning… and it has never gone off.  I have tried everything — changing every configuration of buttons I can imagine.  All to no avail.

Left to my own devices, I’m sure I would oversleep every time.  But You always manage to get me up somehow, Lord.

Sometimes, You just wake me up early… out of a dead sleep.  Other times, You use my dear husband.  I must say, though, Your approach this morning was my favorite!

I woke up at 5:15.  For a whole host of reasons, I felt really exhausted.  So I said, “Lord, could You please let me doze a little longer?  Could you please wake me up again at 6:00?”  And I fell back into a blissful, peaceful sleep.

In what seemed like only a couple of minutes, I felt a sudden weight near my feet.  Then Skippy’s familiar “purr machine” kicked into overdrive as she walked from my feet toward my head.  I reached out my hand and found her close by. Suddenly, she dove into my side and curled up in a ball… purring loudly as I gently scratched her head and back.

I looked at the clock:  It was 6:00 AM.  Why am I not surprised?  🙂

You know how much I love that little cuddle-muffin, Lord!  Guess that’s what makes her the purr-fect wake-up call!

“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens…”  (Ecclesiastes 3:1)

Funny.  I was almost late for the training this morning.  I stayed in bed about twenty minutes longer, just cuddling with Skippy.  Or was it You, Abba?

“The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms.”  (Deuteronomy 33:27a)

[Deep sigh.]  🙂
