Running on Fumes

I come to You, Lord, to fill my “tank” this morning.  I am running on empty.

Regular grade “fuel” will not do.  Medium grade is not up to the task. I need Ultimate High Test.  I need YOU.

I come on my knees because that’s the best position from which I can open my tank.  I have felt out-of-sorts lately, as if I had “sludge” in my system.  Too often lately, I have stopped at a “convenience” store to buy fuel.  I got what I paid for.  Reduced power under the hood.  Reduced gas mileage.  Sluggish performance.

I need to make the most of the life You have given me today.  I don’t just “need” to… I want to.  I long to.  I long to make an eternal difference in the lives of everyone I encounter today… even those who may be standing at a distance, watching without my knowing.  I want to exude Your Light in ways that awaken in others their own hunger and thirst for You… even as You have awakened my own.  So much so, that they (and I) will take even one step closer to You today.

You are my Source, Lord.  The Source of everything good that I have and could ever offer to anyone else.  Apart from You, I can do nothing.  I am nothing.

How can I exude You, my Source, if my tank is empty?  How can I be filled with You if I “shop” for You at a convenience store?

“Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously.  Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”  (2 Corinthians 9:6-7)

This giving is about so much more than money.  It’s about giving You all that we are.  There are no shortcuts where You are concerned… are there, Lord?

You taught us to pray “Give us today our daily bread.”  (Matthew 6:11)  You are the bread, Lord — the Bread of Life. (John 6:35)  We can’t skip a meal and live off yesterday’s rations.  It isn’t healthy.  We need to partake daily of the Feast You gladly offer us… Your very Presence.

“Here I am!  I stand at the door and knock.  If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with Me.”   (Revelation 3:20)

I hear You, Lord.  I hear… and I’m here, on my knees.  I open the door of my heart to You, yet again.  I give You everything, yet again.  All that I am — my thoughts and feelings, my faith and my fears, my hopes and my disappointments, my dreams and my nightmares, my strengths and my weaknesses… all that I am.

Fill me, Lord!  I ask, already knowing Your Answer.  I am ready — eager — for this New Day!

“Today is the day the Lord has made.  Let us rejoice and be glad in it.”  (Psalm 118.24)

With all my love,

Abba’s Girl
