Recalculating!

It’s amazing how technology has advanced, Lord!  In so many ways!  Right now, I’m thinking about cell phones.

I got my first car phone in the 1980’s.  Bulky!  Installed to the driver’s right.  On a post, so my right hand could easily reach its buttons.  A hands-free mike overhead.

I commuted 75 miles to and from work, along multiple Interstates. I was thankful to be able to call for help, if needed.  And for the business I transacted during my long commute.  “Down time” became productivity on steroids!   🙂

Then cell phones hit the market.  Revolutionized the market.  Changing our culture — how we “do” life.

My hundreds of contacts at my fingertips?  My 1,400 favorite songs one click away from my listening pleasure?  Emails exchanged from anywhere I access my carrier’s signal?  A high-resolution camera? And more?

All in the palm of my hand???  Amazing, Lord!!!

Even GPS?!

I was driving around the countryside yesterday, looking for James Monroe’s house (circa 1799).  He’s been dead for 200+ years.  But with his address plugged in, my GPS took me right there!  If I missed a turn or decided on a temporary detour, I heard that familiar assurance: “Recalculating!”   🙂

My GPS always knows where I am and where I’m headed.  And it always calculates the shortest way to get me where I want to go.  Except when it’s totally wrong, that is.  It isn’t perfect, after all!   🙁

I got to thinking, Lord… Wouldn’t it be amazing to have a cultural GPS?

Our culture — the world — is moving into pretty difficult territory.  Uncharted territory… at least for us (i.e., everyone alive today).  But there’s nothing really “new”… is there, Lord?  It might look different on the surface, but at its core…?

“What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun.”  (Ecclesiastes 1:9)

You have always wanted us to find our way to You, Lord.  But Your age-old nemesis still relentlessly tries to trick us.  So we will settle for anywhere else… as long as it’s far from You.

Did God really say…” [i.e., we should doubt Your Voice.]  “You will not certainly die… God knows… your eyes will be opened…”  [i.e., we should doubt Your heart.  Question Your goodness.  Believe we are better off without You.]

The Truth is… When we have You, Lord, our GPS is… Built-in!  Readily available — 24/7!

The God Positioning Spirit:

“The Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.”  (John 14:26)

Plus God’s Powerful Scriptures:

“Your Word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.”  (Psalm 110:105)

You always know where we are and where we’re headed, Lord.  And how to get us where we need to be. Recalculating our way… if we will only seek Your direction and follow Your lead.  Instead of following the crowd.

Needing Your GPS more than ever…
