Mirror, Mirror… Help Me See!

What do we really believe? A profound question. Because whatever we believe informs what we will do.

The Lord calls us to be powerful witnesses of all He represents and holds dear. To move in power far beyond our own.

“For man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”  (Matthew 19:26)

“You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be My witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”  (Acts 1:8)

I suggest that the presence (or absence) of our Kingdom POWER is directly correlated to what we really believe about the Source of that power… and the authority He has delegated to us to use it.

Take the testimony of Pastor Wally Magdangal, a Filipino Christian who lived and ministered in Saudi Arabia. He was arrested there and sentenced to death. But God miraculously intervened. Pastor Wally is still alive and serving the Lord.

On a visit to the offices of Voice of the Martyrs, Wally said something that could empower all of us… if we would just believe it.

“Until God is finished with you, you are invincible!”

How about you? Do you really believe this? Or do you, like the ten fear-full spies who returned from the Promised Land, believe it’s the giants in the land who are invincible?

What giants do we see today? Muslim extremists? Stock market convulsions? Medical diagnoses? Supreme Court decisions? Are you more like the ten fear-full spies who saw themselves like grasshoppers ready to be stomped? Or like Joshua and Caleb, who boldly declared:

“We should go and take possession of the land, for we can certainly do it… If the Lord is pleased with us, He will lead us into that land… and will give it to us. Only do not rebel against [Him]. And do not be afraid of the people [there]… Their protection is gone… the Lord is with us. Do not be afraid…”  (Numbers 13:20;14:8-9)

Today, I encourage us all to hold up a mirror. To look at our reflection and ask ourselves: Who and what do I see?

Someone who knows the Lord intimately and hears His voice clearly? Someone who walks fearlessly by faith, following Him wherever He leads? Or if not fearless, who presses through their fears… following anyway? Someone who surrenders instead of second-guessing?

“I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which He has called you, the riches of His glorious inheritance in His holy people, and His incomparably great power for us who believe. That great power is the same as the mighty strength He exerted when He raised Christ from the dead…”  (Ephesians 1:19-20)

Whatever you see in your mirror… Consider prayerfully what’s beneath your reflection.

What do you truly believe? Where are your opportunities for empowering growth?

What will you do about it?

Excellent word. We should all look into the mirror daily until the reflection we see daily is Jesus. Then we can boldly say I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me!

Yes, indeed! And it is worth remembering we are not unlike gold. It is through refining fire that impurities are separated from what is precious, so it can be skimmed off by The Refiner. If we are willing to let Him have His way.

Praise the Lord! And, yes… I agree. The Lord’s message through Caleb is timeless. However many are the days numbered for us, let us make the most of every opportunity we are given to advance His Kingdom!
