Miracle of the Yellow Roses

You never cease to amaze me, Lord.  (No big surprise, there!)   🙂

And not just when You do things like… well, part the Red Sea.  Some of Your most amazing moments are the “miracles” that go unnoticed by all but the most discerning eyes.

“Are not two sparrows sold for a penny?  Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care.  And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered.  So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.”  (Matthew 10:29-31)

Sometimes You make Yourself more than obvious, Lord.  Because You give us eyes to see.

Like yesterday afternoon.

We were going out for dinner, to the house of some new friends.  It wasn’t “pot luck,” so we had not been asked to bring anything.  But I had this “heart prompting.”  The kind of spiritual “nudge” I have come to know is always from You, Lord.

I was driving past the grocery store when this “light bulb” — i.e., bright idea — went off in my head.  Flowers!  I didn’t know if she — the wife — even likes flowers.  But that was The Bright Idea, so into the store I went.

I was forty feet away from the flower department when I saw them.  A bunch of yellow flowers that “grabbed” me.  Not physically, but magnetically.  Like they had caught me in an invisible tractor beam and were pulling me across the store.

I closed the distance.  As I got closer, I discovered they were little yellow roses.  There were dozens of other flowers around, but I couldn’t take my eyes off them.  There was no question I was to buy them.  Even so, another question hung in the air:

“I wonder if she likes yellow roses… ???”

It didn’t take me long to find out.  When we got to their house, I handed her the bouquet. Her eyes lit up!  Her gratitude was obvious.  But what she said next caught me by surprise.

“How did you know that yellow roses are my very favorite flowers?”

I didn’t know.  But You did… didn’t You, Lord?  And that’s all that mattered.

Except for one thing.

Now, my friend knows how I “happened” to pick up those particular flowers.  With tears in my eyes, I told her Who was really responsible.  Oh, Lord… You are such a hopeless romantic!

It’s moments like these when I fall in love with You, Jesus… all over again!  Maybe the Miracle of the Yellow Roses will help her do so, too…

for the very first time.

“Let the morning bring me word of Your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in You.”  (Psalm 143:8)

Hopefully,

Abba’s Girl
