I know Your heart, Lord — that we will live in the freedom You bought for us at Calvary.
“”The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on Me, because the Lord has anointed Me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent Me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners…” (Isaiah 61:1)
“… if the Son sets you free, you are free indeed.” (John 8:36)
You’re doing all the heavy lifting, Lord. So why do we struggle?
We? I say that assuming I am not the only one in this “boat.” 🙂 But it doesn’t really matter how many are in this boat… does it, Lord?
Because Victory comes one-life-at-a-time.
And the path to Victory requires that we stay real with You.
“Search me, God, and know my heart…” (Psalm 139:23)
That’s where I am right now, Lord. Wanting to be more “real” with You. And wanting to understand why I sometimes still choose to stay captive to a particular sin or temptation when I know You have set already me free from it.
I’m mining for gold here, Lord. Digging deep. Searching for the Mother Lode. Willing to accept even just a nugget. A nugget that will shed more light on the “why” of this seemingly never-ending cycle…
I can’t just say it’s the devil’s fault, even if it partly is. The question is, “What’s my part?”
Is it a “taking the easy way out” kind of deal? Because it seems easier to live with old habits than to exert the effort to form new ones?
Is it a “letting myself off the hook” kind of deal? Letting myself “settle” for less than what I know is Your very best?
Is it a “pretending I’m a victim” kind of deal? Justifying my “weakness” so I can gratify my flesh with impunity?
There’s a nugget here somewhere, Lord. Give me eyes to see it!
“If you hold to My teaching, you are really My disciples. Then you will know The Truth, and The Truth will set you free.” (John 8:31-32)
Knowing Truth is one thing. Knowing The Truth is another thing altogether… isn’t it, Lord? Because You not only speak Truth… You ARE The Truth!
“I am The Way and The Truth and The Life.” (John 14:6)
Even as I seek You for answers, Lord, I cannot help but notice:
I am already walking in freedom!
One day at a time. One choice at a time. In Your power. Not my own. Your power…. which is ALL POWERFUL!
“I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which He has called you, the riches of His glorious inheritance in His holy people, and His incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength He exerted when He raised Christ from the dead…” (Ephesians 1:118-19)
Polishing my nugget…
Looking for more…
