Blessing My Socks Off!

It was one of those offhand remarks. A “by the way” comment added to the end of an hour-long conversation. A “by the way” comment that went off in my spirit like fireworks!

All because of You, Lord. You and Your Amazing Grace.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.” (Proverbs 3:5-6)

You had given me an assignment, Lord. A small one. Seemingly inconsequential, but profoundly impactful.

I knew You had assigned it to me. But soon, I had the sense You had also assigned it to one of my clients. So I brought it up in our next session. After explaining it — and sharing the impact it had on me — I paused. And I must say…

It seemed like the idea fell flat.

Maybe I had misunderstood You? Maybe I had run ahead of You? I didn’t know. But I let it pass and didn’t think anything more about it. Until weeks later, when my client added her “by the way” comment to the end of our session.

“By the way,” she said, “did I ever tell you what I did with your idea?” No, she hadn’t. Until that moment.

And I discovered she had grabbed hold of that idea and made it come to life. For herself and her children. And, later, for all of the employees in her company!

She had gone out of her way on their behalf — personally researching how this idea would apply to each person in her sphere of influence. Then she created a personalized keepsake for each person, commemorating its meaning. The Idea became not only a personal blessing, but an opportunity for all of them to connect more deeply with each other… and with You, Lord.

“Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.”  (Ephesians 3:20)

How many other times do we obey Your promptings, Lord, without knowing the result? Maybe more often than not. But then there are those moments when You give us eyes to see… and the results bless our socks off!  🙂  And, invariably, spur us on.

“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds… encouraging one another — and all the more as you see The Day approaching.” (Hebrews 10:24-25)

Oh, Lord… I can’t wait for Your next prompting! And the results You bring about through it… whether I know them or not! 🙂
