Better Than Rolling Dice!

Probabilities are fascinating to figure out.

Like the probability that one toss of one die will result in a particular number.  A die has six sides, so the probability of “tossing” any particular number is one in six or 1/6.

Simple… right, Lord?

Add another die and things get more complicated in a hurry!  Like the probability that, when tossing two dice, the numbers on each die will be different.

There are six possible combinations for each die.  Which means there are 36 possibilities between the two.  Of those 36, there are only six chances the two dice will match each other.  Meaning there are 30 chances they won’t.  That’s 30/36, which is 5/6.

Simple… right, Lord?

So how about the probability that I would go to a particular church today, one I hadn’t attended in several years?  According to one online source, there are 52 churches in our county.  So there would be one chance in 52 that I would go to that particular church.

How about the probability that I would sit on the other side of the sanctuary from the door through which I entered?  Or the probability that I would head over to that place because I saw (from a distance) a friend I hadn’t seen in over a year?

How about the probability that her pew would be full, so I would have to sit across the aisle from her?  Or the probability that I would turn around to greet the woman I did sit next to… and see that she was wearing the exact same colors I was wearing?  So amazing a fact that I would strike up a conversation with her — “I guess we were meant to sit together.  We match!”

How about the probability that she would then introduce herself… and her name would sound vaguely familiar to me?  Or the probability that when I mentioned my name, she would throw her arms around me?

Because she and her husband were so touched by You, Lord, when I spoke at their community years ago… she has been asking people in the community about me ever since???

Meant to sit together???  INDEED!!!   🙂

What would be the probability in the natural of ALL of that happening today, Lord?  One in some number too big to write down?

What would be the probability with Your supernatural orchestration, Lord?  One “chance” in one try!!!  A 100% certainty!!!

AMAZING!!!

Maybe that’s why we can live so confidently, Lord… because we know You are so trustworthy!  So faithful!  So able!

“Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.”  (Hebrews 11:1)

“This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.  And if we know that He hears us — whatever we ask — we know that we have what we have asked of Him.”  (1 John 5:14-15)

“Blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in Him.  They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream.  It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green.  It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.”  (Jeremiah 17:7-8)

Wow, Lord… That’s a whole lot better than living life by rolling the dice!!!

Grateful for the certainty of You,

Abba’s Girl
