BEAR-ly AWAKE!

I could hardly keep my eyes open. Too much activity and too few hours of sleep will do that every time. I was barely awake.

Until our Unwelcome Visitor showed up! All 300 pounds of him! (I’m guessing. I didn’t ask him.)  🙂

He didn’t care that it was 2:00 AM.

He had already finished off the bird food in the “bear-proof” bird feeder we had spent hours installing yesterday. Now, he was after the grill on our back porch. The grease from the delicious lemon-herb chicken we had cooked for dinner last night.

He didn’t care that it was our screened-in porch.

The screen was no match for his huge claws. The grill was no match for the powerful grip of his mouth and paws. What began as a mild disturbance turned into a noisy racket. Waking me out of a sound sleep. How could it not? I was only a few feet away!

Would he break through the sliding glass doors to get inside our house???

His own racket must have scared him. In the few minutes it took us to load the rifle and grab the flashlight. By the time we went outside — CAUTIOUSLY! — he had run off. Leaving his own special brand of destruction in his wake.

He didn’t care that it included my SLEEPLESSNESS! Now, I was BEAR-ly AWAKE!

It took me hours to get back to sleep. Leaving me only a couple of hours before I had to get up. The New Day was starting, after all. Bringing with it New Opportunities… for how to become more Bear-Proof?!

I couldn’t help but think… Maybe that was part of Cancer’s gift to me, too, Lord.

In some ways, I had been “barely awake” before. Grateful for life on many levels, but perhaps a little too Complacent? Taking things a little too much for granted? Until that Predator — Cancer — showed up.

My physical “screen” was no match for its huge “claws.” My body has the permanent scars to prove it. From the “chunks” it “tore away” with its powerful swipe. Not one swipe, but two… repaired with man-made replacements.

It’s funny in a way… Man-made replacements for female body parts. Funny… except when it isn’t funny.

But something wonderful happened, too! Something WONDER-FULL! I became BEAR-ly AWAKE! Ready to LIVE LIFE like never before!

FEARLESSLY. POWERFULLYPURPOSEFULLY. Thanks to You, Lord!

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.”  (Romans 8:28)

We’re tightening up our bear defenses today, in case that 300-pounder comes back tonight. It’s been five years since I saw that other Predator. I am now FIVE YEARS CANCER FREE!!! And I’m believing “he” won’t be back!!!

Whatever happens… I’m ready!

“Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, ‘He is my Refuge and my Fortress, my God, in whom I trust.'” (Psalm 91:1-2)

Gratefully,

Abba’s Girl
