Auto-struck to Awe-struck… !!!

Six hours on the road.  Over 400 miles behind us.  At least 75 miles to go, at speeds ranging from 55 to 70 miles per hour.

Suddenly… BAM!!!

An explosion near the right front bumper!  It was the tire.  Smoke pouring forth as we maintained control of the car while slowing down and pulling off the highway.

I have never seen anything like it.  The tire was ripped apart.  Burning HOT to the touch.  No puncture from a nail.  The tire had literally exploded.

Clearly, Lord, You kept us safe  We were in heavy traffic, with cars flying past us at breakneck speeds.  But You did much more than “just” keep us from crashing!

“Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”  (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18)

Immediately as we got out of our car, we noticed the car parked right behind us.  The car that had mirrored our actions — slowing down and pulling off the highway.

Two big, burly, muscle-bound guys.  They had witnessed the whole thing.  They saw the explosion and the smoke.  They immediately pulled off the road, got out of their car and came over.

We were examining the damage, then extracting the spare tire and jack from the trunk of our car.  One was introducing himself to me while the other wasted no time getting on his stomach, positioning the jack under the car’s frame.

An off-duty police officer and his friend.  They had just come from a football game.  They weren’t just spectators, they were players.  Semi-pro ball.  Big, burly, muscle-bound guys who, in another setting, would have been intimidating.

I saw the tattoo before I heard his words.  That’s when I realized the fullness of what You had done, Lord.  On the upper arm of this Good Samaritan was a huge cross sprouting wings like an eagle and introducing him as “God’s Warrior.”

Of course he was!   🙂

We needed help — of the big, burly, muscle-bound kind.  So You sent us two dear brothers-in-Christ… positioning them in the precise place and at the precise moment to make Your divine orchestration undeniable.

Within twenty minutes, with spare tire in place, we were back on the road.  They were, too… rejoicing, I suspect, as they discovered yet again that they could not “out-give” You!

“Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise — the fruit of lips that openly profess His name.  And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.”  (Hebrews 13:15-16)

How wonderful to know that I’ll see them again, Abba — here, there or “in the air”!!!

How wonderful to know that You are always watching over us, Lord… a very present Help!

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.  I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”  (Isaiah 41:10)

Awestruck yet again,

Abba’s Girl
