A Thousand to One Jackpot?

We had our first conversation today in over three years.  And we quickly discovered our last conversation could have been just yesterday!

For me and my sister-in-Christ, our thousand days apart had become like one day.  As if we had never been apart.  She was even a thousand miles away.  But somehow, it seemed like she was right here.

Because of one phone call?  No.  Because of one Spirit… Your Spirit, Lord!

“The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.”  (Romans 8:16)

In any other arena of life, a “thousand to one” gamble would be considered extremely improbable.  But with You, Lord, these “thousand to one” bets are A Sure Thing!

Like the passage of time, when Your heart is bent on rescue.

“With the Lord [one] day is like a thousand years and a thousand years are like [one] day.  The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise, as some understand slowness.  Instead He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.”  (2 Peter 3:8-9)

Or the “necessity” of external rituals when what You really want is our heart.

“I have no need of [one] bull from your stall… for every animal of the forest is Mine, and the cattle on a thousand hills… Sacrifice thank offerings to God, fulfill your vows to the Most High, and call on Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will honor Me.”  (Psalm 50:9-10,14-15)

Or our extremely improbable victory when vastly outnumbered by an enemy.

“One of you routs a thousand, because the Lord your God fights for you, just as He promised.  So be very careful to love the Lord your God.”  (Joshua 23:10-11)

A thousand-to-one odds?  I’m betting on You, Lord, with the certainty that I will always win the Jackpot of all jackpots!  And I’m “betting” with much more than my money.  I’m betting with my whole life, Lord.  All of me.

“Faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.”  (Hebrews 11:1)
