When Will It Be My Turn?

Oh, Abba… I am a puddle of tears!

I don’t hang out much on Facebook.  But tonight, after just a few minutes of “surfing” through the latest “news stories,” I had a vision of The Future.

What I saw was a video of surprise reunions.  Service men and women being reunited with their children.

Soldier dads showing up at their children’s schools or ball games.  In unexpected places.  At unexpected times.  Children whose initial shock and shyness transformed into running across rooms into the loving arms of their fathers.  Scooped up into strong, warm embraces.  Embraces of the “I love you so much!” and “We’ll never be apart again!” kind.

Suddenly, I was no longer watching children being reunited with their soldier fathers.  I saw myself, Your soldier daughter, being reunited with You.  Finally coming off the battlefield, running through those last few yards of separation.  Leaping into Your everlasting arms.  Being scooped up into The Embrace to end all embraces.  Holding You tight, even as You hold me…

How could I not weep with joy?!

“Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.”  (Philippians 3:12)

Why did You take hold of me, Lord?  Surely it was for my destiny — the work You have made me to do this side of Heaven.  And just as surely, perhaps even more so, it was for Beautiful Moments like those I watched on this video.  Moments of Shared Love, poured out with abandon.  Your Princess Warrior, wrapped tightly in the arms of her Forever Daddy.

“‘I will be a Father to you, and you will be my sons and daughters,’ says the Lord Almighty.”  (2 Corinthians 6:18)

[Deep sigh.]  When will it be my turn for that hug, Abba?  I can hardly wait!!!

Waiting and watching,

Abba’s Girl
