We Need Spiritual Fireworks, Lord!

It’s July 4th.  The celebration of Independence Day for our nation.  Ordinarily, it’s a day of family picnics and fellowship and fireworks.  Oh, Lord… Has it also been a celebration of the amazing Gift of Freedom?

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed with their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”  (Declaration of Independence)

It has been raining here all day.  No picnics in sight.  The forecast for tonight is… well… even more rain, with little or no chance of fireworks, large or small.

But spiritual fireworks?  They’ve been exploding all day, Lord!  I can’t help it!  It happens whenever I read testimonies about revival!!!

Like the account I read just today in Draw the Circle (Mark Batterson, page 191)… about missionary Dr. Edward Miller, who spent four decades in Argentina.  He claimed there were only 600 Spirit-filled believers in the whole country.

Then an intense prayer burden for the nation came over 50 students at the Argentine Bible Institute.  Dr. Miller had never seen anyone weep so hard or pray so long.

On the 50th day of around-the-clock intercession, there was a Word from You, Lord:  “Weep no more, for the Lion of the tribe of Judah hath prevailed over the prince of Argentina.”  Within about 18 months, hundreds of thousands were coming to crusades!

WOW!

What a precious thing to read on Independence Day, Lord!  Because as precious as our nation’s freedoms are, our eternal Freedom — thanks to You — is priceless!

But You never stop there… do You, Lord?  Whenever You stir up the Thrill of Possibility, You inevitably ask the Questions of Accountability.

So often in Your Word, revivals occurred when Your people’s leaders rediscovered Your ancient Truths.  Truths that had been long forgotten through generations of wandering away from You.

What are Your ancient Truths that we must rediscover, Lord?  The Truths we have wandered away from for generations?

The generations rediscovering Your Truths proceeded to… repent of their sins… tear down idols they had come to treasure instead of You… and rebuild Your temple.

What sins have we come to accept, Lord, and — dare I say it — even adore?

What idols have we come to treasure, Lord, that we must tear down so they will no longer keep us from turning — returning — to You?

“If My people, who are called by My name, will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”  (2 Chronicles 7:14)

Oh, Lord… As we look to the skies tonight in anticipation, let the best fireworks we experience be on the inside!!!

“But after me comes One who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry.  He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.” (Matthew 3:11)

Awaiting Your Spark…

… and the wildfire You will ignite!!!
