Walking in Freedom – Part One

One Choice At A Time.  That’s where freedom is found… isn’t it, Lord?  Because that’s where Life happens.  Not in decades or years or days or even hours.  Life happens in moments — moments of choice.

“I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses.  Now choose life, so that you and your children may live and that you may love the Lord your God, listen to His Voice, and hold fast to Him.  For the Lord is your Life.”  (Deuteronomy 30:19b-20)

You reminded me on my birthday that my life is all about Choices and Consequences.

I can choose to embrace You, Lord, and enjoy the abundant Life and blessings You offer (in the midst of all times, not just the “good” times).  Or I can choose to satisfy my flesh, seek the world’s “riches” and surrender to the devil’s schemes… only to reap a harvest of curses and death.

So what (or who) will I choose?

One of the most empowering birthday gifts You gave me this year was this priceless reminder:  I can choose.  Because of You, Lord.

“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”  (Philippians 4:13)

I haven’t always made right choices, Lord.  Not just before You captured my heart… but since then, too.  There are times when I am overwhelmed with grief as a result.  The enemy wants to take those times and convince me that they are evidence of my lack of love for You.  And that the “fruit” of those wrong choices will be the loss of Your love for me.

But the enemy is a liar.

“No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.  For I am convinced that… [nothing] in all creation will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”  (Romans 8:37-38)

I have often given power tools as gifts to my dear husband.  On this birthday, You gave me a power tool — a Choice Power Tool.  A simple way to help me walk in freedom… one choice at a time.  I have already started to use it.

Every choice I make is ultimately a choice about how I will use and/or “spend” my body, time, talent or treasure.  This “Choice Power Tool” invites me to STOP and consider five key questions before I make my choice.  When I do, Your Right Choice not only becomes obvious to me… I become strengthened in Your Presence to make that Right Choice!

Wow… Even as I was typing these words, You turned on the “light bulb” in my brain.  This Choice Power Tool leads to the practical fulfillment of another powerful command:

“Submit yourselves, then, to God.  Resist the devil and he will flee from you.  Come near to God and He will come near to you.”  (James 4:7-8a)

If I am willing, Lord, how can I possibly fail?

If I am willing…

“Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me… grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.”  (Psalm 51:10,12b)

Resting in Your Unfailing Grace,

Abba’s Girl
