You knew the burden that was on my heart today, Lord.  A burden I see weighing too many people down.  A burden I know You want to lift.

Since You so often speak to me through nature, I wondered what in nature could possibly be a picture of this burden.  Immediately, You gave me the answer:

A giant Redrood tree.

Called Nature’s Skyscrapers, giant Redwoods can grow more than 350 feet tall.  They are the tallest trees on earth, and can live for 2,000 years.  With a trunk diameter of 24 feet, they are also heavy. A single tree can weigh up to 500 tons, or 1 million pounds.  Heavy, indeed.

One particularly significant fact about a Redwood concerns its root system:  It is surprisingly shallow. Its major roots are only one inch in diameter, and can reach 50 to 80 feet in length. The way redwoods are able to remain upright for millennia is by growing close together, intermingling their root systems.  These intermingled root systems can extend for 100 miles.

So it is with the burden on my heart today:  The LIES that have taken root in our minds.

They can loom up to heights that seem insurmountable to us.  Some LIES have grown so large in our minds, we feel dwarfed in comparison. If we could see ourselves through Your eyes, Lord — I mean truly see — we would be feeling like “a milliion bucks.”   Instead, we see only our “redwood” and we feel every one of those million pounds we are carrying.

But the key is in the root system… isn’t it, Lord?

What if the LIE we have believed for so long is like the Redwood, with a surprisingly shallow root system?  What if the reason the LIE has remained standing for so long in our rminds is that it has clustered together with other LIES, all using their shallow roots to hold each other up?  To seem stronger and more “invincible” than they really are.  Perhaps to even pass from one generation to the next, out of habit or resignation.

The “Redwood” is so big, after all… Really?  Compared to who?  Compared to You, Lord?

“Who has measured the waters in the hollow of His hand, or with the breadth of His hand marked off the heavens?  Who has held the dust of the earth in a basket, or weighed the mountains on the scales and the hills in a balance? … ‘To whom will you compare Me?  Or who is My equal?’ says the Holy One.”  (Isaiah 40:12,25)

I spoke with three precious clients today, Lord.  They are each at different stages in their awareness of their internal “Redwoods” and Your TRUTHS that can (and will) sever their roots.  But one thing You have shown me with absolute certainty:

Those” Redwoods” WILL fall… and these women You love so very dearly WILL BE FREE of weights that have crushed them far too long!!!

“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”  (John 10:10)

“Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.”  (2 Corinthians 3:17)

“So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.”  (John 8:36)

TIMBER!!!  What more joyful sound could there be, Lord???

Gratefully,

Abba’s Girl
