There Are States… And STATES!

What State am I in today???

There are States of Ignorance, Confusion, Anxiety, and Turmoil.  States of Sickness, Weakness, Hyperactivity, and Exhaustion.

Yesterday, I was in the State of North Carolina.  Today, South Carolina.  With hundreds of miles of driving in between.

Both days, I was in the State of BLISS!   🙂   As the “Governor” of Cheer Leading!

I saw one grandson make a goal and win a soccer game.  I’m guessing he would still have made the goal and won the game if I hadn’t been on the sidelines. But it sure was nice to be there.

I heard a teenage granddaughter share her heart about her challenges in the past and her hopes for the future.  I had to be there for that Life Reveal.  Sometimes, email and telephones just don’t cut it.

Breaking bread with a family distanced by geography and other “ravines” of Life.  Like States of Resentment and Bitterness, in the aftermath of Divorce.  Making headway, whenever possible, on the road that leads to the State of Healing.

I looked around the table, considering where we once were to The Now.  How far we have yet to go… and how far we have come!  How could I not, in that precious moment, enter more fully into my favorite State… of Worship?

“Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker; for He is our God and we are the people of His pasture, the flock under His care.”  (Psalm 95:6-7)

Last night, I was sitting on the upper deck of a 36-foot trawler.

She — why are boats always a “she”? — was resting for the night.  On her way down the Intracoastal Waterway from Maryland to Florida.  Her Captain and First Mate — dear friends — recounting tales of their recent travels through the State of Adventure!

This morning, I realized I have also been in another State these past days… haven’t I, Lord?

The Great State of GRATITUDE!

“It is good to praise the Lord and make music to Your name, O Most High, proclaiming Your love in the morning and Your faithfulness at night… For You make me glad by Your deeds, Lord; I sing for joy at what Your hands have done.”  (Psalm 92:1-2,4)

What States await us today?  It doesn’t really matter, Lord… as long as You are there!
