“Do you swear to tell The Truth, the Whole Truth and nothing but The Truth… so help you, God?”

“So help me, God.”

It’s what witnesses swear whenever they take the stand in any courtroom.  Where the stakes are significant.  Where their testimony can lead others to a conclusion that can mean Conviction.  Or not.

Win or Lose.  Live or Die.

So why wouldn’t the same standard — the same oath — not be relevant in any other realm of Life, Lord? Where our testimony can also lead others to a conclusion that can mean Conviction?  Or not?

Win or Lose.  Live or Die.

The Book You commissioned me to write is well under way, Lord.  The Book You were writing in my Life before You gave me words to write it on paper.

I penned an Introduction today.  More to help me get my head around how You want to structure this Book than any other reason.  The words You gave me resonated deeply, Lord.  They just felt right.

I decided to show it to someone.  Just one person.  Their reaction was… enlightening.

“Are you sure you want to be that religious up front?  Isn’t this book supposed to be about you?  You want people to read it… right?  Is this for a wider audience… or for a narrow [i.e., Christian] audience?”

Enlightening, indeed.  As if downplaying or eliminating Your role altogether would make this Book more “useful” to more people.

“Do not be conformed to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.  Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is — His good, pleasing and perfect will.”  (Romans 12:2)

This Book is all about winning or losing… on a grander scale.  And yes… about living or dying, too.  And You, Lord, are at the center of it all!  Because You are really my story’s Author.  THE Healing beyond the cancer. THE Purpose beyond the pain.

THE Joy beyond the despair.

How could I possibly tell The Story without its true Author… up front and center?  How could a watered down, Christ-less version hold any Hope for the hopeless?

Isn’t that what happened to AA, Lord?  You delivered its founder from alcoholism through a personal encounter with You in his hospital room!  Where he almost died from alcohol poisoning.

But then, the 12-step Program got watered down.  So “more” people could “benefit” from it.  ???

People still acknowledged they needed a “Higher Power.”  But You were no longer THE Way, THE Truth and THE Life, Lord.  You were replaced with whomever — or whatever — each individual perceived their Higher Power to be.

He?  She?  Or It?

The true Power had departed.

“Before Me no god was formed, nor will there be one after Me.  I, even I, am The Lord, and apart from Me there is no savior.”  (Isaiah 43:11)

So that’s what I must write.  The Truth, the Whole Truth and nothing but The Truth.

So help me, God!

Eagerly,

Abba’s Girl
