The Ultimate Reality Show

We’re living it every day… aren’t we, Lord?  The Ultimate Reality behind our everyday life?   Is that why we are so drawn to its digital reenactments in blockbuster hits like Star Wars, The Matrix and The Hunger Games?

There is always an oppressive, evil empire with a crueler-than-cruel dictator.  There is always a death-like existence for the masses trapped in hopeless bondage.  There is always a Moment of Awakening and Realization.

And there is always a Savior.

“For God so loved the world that He gave His One and Only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have Eternal Life.”  For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him.”  (John 3:16-17)

We know instinctively that something is vastly wrong with bondage.  No matter how alluring its “mask” may be.  We know instinctively there is something we each need desperately.  Almost as much as the air we breathe.

FREEDOM.

We know instinctively that we, too, are Underdogs.  Just like the unhappy masses we see on our technology screens.  Underdogs who have every reason to overthrow The System, but who lack the resources… and, especially, the resolve.

Until a Savior appears… and instills us with HOPE.

“It is for Freedom that Christ has set us free.”  (Galatians 5:1)

“We have this Hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.”  (Hebrews 6:19)

Each digital savior is a pale imitation, leaving us… empty.  Until the next blockbuster comes along… and the cycle continues.

Funny how these imitation “saviors” almost always, at some point in their battle, end up in a certain pose. As if hanging on a cross.  Instinctively, they also know it’s all about You… don’t they?

But how can we see, hear, smell, taste and touch You, Lord, when You are no longer here “with skin on”? Here — where we can be so easily distracted by what we can see, hear, smell, taste and touch.

Where we need that same Moment of Awakening and Realization.  Not just one Moment, but a lifetime of Moment-by-Moment encounters with You.

“I was blind but now I see!”  (John 9:25)

“Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a Voice behind you, saying, ‘This is the way; walk in it.'”  (Isaiah 30:21)

“For we are to God the pleasing aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing.”  (2 Corinthians 2:15)

“Taste and see that the Lord is good.”  (Psalm 34:8)

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.  I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.”  (Isaiah 41:10)

I’m so thankful The Blockbuster of all blockbusters has already been produced!  May its “trailer” be irresistible to all who see it!

“Seek the Lord while He may be found; call on Him while He is near… and He will have mercy… for He will freely pardon.”  (Isaiah 55:6-7)
