I hadn’t seen my Forever Sister in… more than a year? She lives far away. Even spends time in distant countries.
I had hoped to see her over the weekend, Lord. I thought she would be at a particular venue where her husband was speaking. I wasn’t sure until the last minute that I would be able to go.
The Door of Opportunity opened!
“These are the words of Him who is holy and true, who holds the key of David. What He opens no one can shut, and what He shuts, no one can open.” (Revelation 3:7)
I arrived at the venue as the event was beginning. Hundreds of people, gathering together to worship You, Lord! Led by singers, dancers, intercessors, speakers… and, of course, You.
I saw her husband, my Forever Brother, far across the room. Already serving as master of ceremonies, under Your leadership — the Master of all masters. I didn’t see her, but imagined she was somewhere close by… praying.
You didn’t hold to the agenda, Lord. Why was I not surprised? 🙂 Who could ever think they could hold You to the announced time limits of an event? Who would want to?!
I had already stayed almost an hour past the closing time. Our encounter with You was not yet finished. I now saw my Sister with her husband. There were hundreds of people between us. No way to “swim” through the human flood.
My cell phone rang. My sweet husband, holding dinner for me. “Where are you?” It was already 9:00 PM. I knew I had to leave. Only You know the fullness of that truth, Lord.
The Door of Opportunity closed. Seeing this Forever Sister would have to wait for another day.

This morning, I read her husband’s social media post. She’s having health problems. He directed us to another site for info. She’s entering into the Valley of the Shadow of cancer.
Oh, Abba… Is it possible to be doubly sorry for missed opportunities?
We cannot control the cards we are dealt in Life. Only how we play our hand. And the attitude in our hearts as we play. So many choices in front of us, all the time. Choices with Consequences.
Only by Your Grace, Lord, can we ever hope to choose well.
“I have set before you Life and Death, blessings and curses. Now choose Life… that you may love the Lord your God, listen to His Voice, and hold fast to Him. For the Lord is your Life.” (Deuteronomy 30:19-20)
