The Prince With The Tarnished Crown

Where did that dream come from, Lord?  Not a story played out.  Just a face.  A face from The Past.  My First Love.

Back in the days when I was a Princess to Prince Charming.  Or… I tried to be.  Living a Dream?  A Fantasy?  A Happily-ever-hoped-for?  A play in which I was trying to memorize someone else’s lines?

The Dream awakened.  The Prince was human after all.  With problems of his own.  His crown tarnished.  The Fantasy lost focus.   And The Princess?  Way too… Wounded.  Defensive.  Protective. Broken.  Bitter.  Lost.  In a word… Unloving.

So, why that Face in last night’s Dreamland, Lord?  After so many decades?  Maybe… so I would pray?

“Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”  (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18)

So I did.  I prayed.

For the wounded… to Heal.  The Defensive… to Trust.  The Protective… to Risk.  The broken… to Mend.  The bitter… to Forgive. The lost… to Find.  So the unloving… can LOVE.

And I prayed… giving thanks.  For how You have already done so much of this work in me, Lord.  For how You are continuing this work… even now.  For the work You will have also done in this Prince from My Past… if he has opened his heart to You.

“… being confident of this, that He who began a good work in [us] will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”  (Philippians 1:6)

It is only possible with You, Lord.  Any of it.  All of it.  Because no one loves like You do.

“[Love] always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.  Love never fails.”  (1 Corinthians 13:7-8)

You are not the Prince whose crown can’t help but tarnish.  You are The King whose love endures forever.  And amazingly — thankfully — this has nothing to do with well or poorly I am loving You.

“For the Lord is good and His love endures forever; His faithfulness continues through all generations.”  (Psalm 100:5)

Thanks to You, Beloved, I’m a real Princess now.  Living out my true Happily-Ever-After… with You.  I am forever grateful that You set Your heart on me.  You chose to love me even before I was at my worst. Knowing my worst would come.

“But God demonstrates His own love for us in this:  While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”  (Romans 5:8)

I was a pauper of the poorest sort.  Now a Princess.  Living — and loving — the Dream of all dreams!

“See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!  And that is what we are!”  (1 John 3:1)

Dreaming wide awake,

Abba’s Girl
