The Power of The Right Thing

I heard a Latin phrase years ago. In Latin, it was meaningless to me. Its translation? A Game Changer.

Fiat Justicia et Pereat Mundus… Do the right thing, come what may.

This is foundational to one of my favorite movies, Come What May, The Kingdom POWER lessons here are many and profound. I highly recommend it to anyone wanting to be blessed by viewing some of today’s most challenging issues through a God-honoring lens.

There’s real Kingdom POWER in doing The Right Thing… come what may. Amen? Like speaking God’s Truth in love. Even in the face of great personal risk. Like living out the radical, agape love Jesus modeled for us. To the point of loving (and powerfully impacting) an enemy.

Even if that impact is not yet discernable.

But, how do we know The Right Thing? Surely it falls within the scope of what the Lord has revealed is pleasing to Him.

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart… soul… and… mind.”  (Matthew 22:37) AND “Seek first His Kingdom and His righteousness…”  (Matthew 6:33)

But how we operationalize that in very practical ways in our workplaces and personal lives is another challenge altogether.

What is The Right Thing for us to do — as Christ-followers, business owners/workers, spouses, parents, etc.? What is The Right Thing for us to do over our lifetime? And, short of that… this year… month… week… day… moment?

How do we focus long enough to discern any of this? And once we do, to accomplish it? When, truth be told, we are constantly bombarded by people and things competing for our time and attention?

Here are some startling statistics. The adverse impact of distractions in our increasingly-frenetic world. Check this out…

Distractions waste 759 hours per year. Per worker. That’s 19 weeks. Almost FIVE MONTHS of wasted time per year. Per worker.   https://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/jobs/11691728/Employees-waste-759-hours-each-year-due-to-workplace-distractions.html

Costing U.S. businesses up to ONE TRILLION DOLLARS. Every year!   https://www.inc.com/will-yakowicz/email-social-media-smartphones-distractions-cost-997-billion.html?cid=search

But that’s just in business. Distractions impact every area of our lives — relationships, health (physical / spiritual), finances… even, it seems, our sanity.

Said another way… How much hair loss occurs because we are pulling it out?  🙂

What Kingdom fruit could we cultivate and harvest if we regained and leveraged our FOCUS? I don’t have your answer… but here’s a fabulous resource to help you find it.

The ONE Thing. The #1 bestselling book by Gary Keller, founder of Keller Williams Realty (#1 real estate company worldwide). One of the best books I’ve ever read for how to work (live) smarter.

Radical concepts like… Not all priorities are equal. (Everything can’t be #1). Multitasking is a lie. (We can’t focus on two things at once. Whenever we try, both suffer). To name just two. It’s jam-packed with POWER-full wisdom.

So, how about you?

How evident is Distraction Mania in or around you?

What’s The Right Thing for you to do next?
