The Most Treasured Reservoir

It’s raining. Again. As it has for the last several days. A treasured reservoir of water.

The remnants of Hurricane Florence, making landfall far south of us? Or just a long-overdue watering? Yet another Gift from You, Lord?

Whatever its cause, I know what it has become. The inspiration for today’s post. Because as I see and feel those many drops of rain, all I can think about right now is… tears.

Elizabeth Barrett Browning said it so beautifully in her love poem. But Your Love Poem to me is so much greater, Lord. Perhaps this is how it goes…

How do You love me, Lord? Let me count the… tears.

The tears You cried …

… when Your Gift to me on The Cross became unbearable…

… when The Greatest Evil from without came and killed my innocence…

… when The Greatest Evil from within came and killed my innocent…

… when my Grief above all griefs almost ended all Hope…

… when Your Light pierced my darkness…

… when You changed my Never into Forever…

… when Your Grace saved my life, literally, too many times to count…

… when Your Grace healed me, layer by layer, and heals me still…

… when Your Truth delivered (and delivers) me into more and more freedom…

… when Your Presence empowers me with compassion and courage…

… when Your Spirit emboldens me to tell the whole world about You…

How do You love me, Lord? Let me count the… tears.

Tears of Pain. Tears of Grief. Tears of Victory. Tears of Joy.

The Most Treasured Reservoir of all.

I treasure each teardrop, my Beloved.

Now and always.

“I have loved you with an Everlasting Love; I have drawn you with Unfailing Kindness. I will build you up again… and… you will go out to dance with the joyful.”  (Jeremiah 31:3-4)

“God Himself will be with them and be their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain.”  (Revelation 21:3-4)

You long for that day even more than we do… don’t You, Abba?

[Deep sigh.]   🙂   🙂   🙂
