The Miracle of Father-Daughter Love

I witnessed a miracle today, Lord.  My tears of joy made a puddle around me.

The Miracle of Father-Daughter love.  Or was it Daughter-Father love?

It was both.

They were estranged almost their whole lives.  Because the father had mistreated the daughter.  Big Time.  Such mistreatment at such tender ages yields such bitterness.  And estrangement from You, Lord.

After all… How can we love You, Abba Father, when our earthly father is nothing like You?

But the Father-Daughter love that starts with You never ends… does it, Abba?  It may be invisible to us because our earthly pain has blinded us.  When physical scars heal, emotional scars remain.  Sometimes, for decades.

Yet beyond our sight, Your steadfast love remains.

Then, perhaps decades later, the wall in us — and the armor around us — cracks.  We can’t live any longer without You, Father.  So we turn to You… hoping our hearts will ultimately catch up.  And they do.  Isn’t it inevitable… in the warm glow of Sonshine?

I witnessed that Miracle today, Lord.  As a daughter testified to the Miracle of her relationship with You, Abba… AND with her earthly father.  The Certainty of it.  The Magnitude of it.  The Beauty of it.  The Impossibility of it…

… except for You, Lord.

“I will repay you for the years the locusts have eaten… and you will praise the name of the Lord your God, who has worked wonders for you…”  (Joel 2:25)

To hear a fallen dad, redeemed by Your loving grace, speak such words to his daughter. And to hear her speak the same words back to him.  Both speaking from hearts that are totally transformed.  Speaking works of LIFE borne of authentic repentance, compassion and forgiveness that could only be inspired and solidified by Your Holy Spirit.

“I love you more right now than I ever have before.”

How can I explain my tears, Lord?  Is there Beauty too intense to behold?  Glory too bright for the naked eye?  Gratitude that can’t help but overflow when parched bitterness is transformed into unquenchable JOY?

“Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name, Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.”  (Matthew 6:9-10)

Like today.  In the impossible restoration of Father-Daughter love.  And Daughter-Father love.  And their mutual love for You.

Now… and forever.

Awestruck,

Abba’s Girl
