The Master Key

I’m enjoying the rhythm of these Son-days, Lord. Reflecting on our Adventures together during the past week. Thanking You for each Encounter that filled my cup to overflowing!

Like this one…

I met her for the first time a few days ago. On my front porch.

She was there to help one of my neighbors. I was there, key in hand, to open their door for her. So she could go inside and see what needed fixing.

We smiled and exchanged small talk until she had finished her tour of their house. She came away with a checklist of minor — mostly cosmetic — tasks to make that house sparkle.

We ended up back on my front porch because… actually, I can’t remember now what took us back there. I just know Who.

It was You… wasn’t it, Lord?

How do I know this? Because suddenly, our conversation shifted from small talk to BIG TALK. What could be bigger than cancer, Lord… or needing / finding / trusting You in the midst of it?

She knew I had traveled that Valley with You, Lord. Because someone had shared with her the testimony You gave me. The testimony of Your Goodness and Grace to me, gratefully shared in my first really personal book — Victory in The Valley.

Maybe that’s what helped us “go deep” that day. Breast cancer is that sorority no one would ever want to seek out and join. Yet those who suddenly find ourselves members are also suddenly… bonded.

Fellow warriors battling a common Enemy.

But it wasn’t just cancer that bonded us that day… was it, Lord? Because You had known since before You even created the Earth that You would orchestrate this particular front porch encounter on that particular day.

So You could be (and become) more front-and-center in each of our lives… as You helped us reflect on how You transform even the toughest Valley into Victory.

Because whenever darkness comes — and it comes to all of us — Your Light shines all the brighter.

“But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us. We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed.” (1 Corinthians 4:7-9)

My neighbor had asked me to be there that day, to give this dear servant the key to his house. But You, Lord, had sent me there… to encourage this dear survivor to give You one more key to her heart.

The Master Key. Reserved only for You, Lord. So she can experience Your Healing Touch … even more deeply than she already has.

Master of The Universe. Heart of my heart.

How very dear You are.

Gratefully,

Abba’s Girl
