The Ball’s In Your Court!

That’s the last thing I said to her.

Our conversation had lasted all of ten minutes.  I met her on the plane returning from New York.

She had deliberately changed her seat before boarding the plane.  She just “felt” like changing it.  I don’t know why.  Well, actually… I do.

You wanted us to meet… didn’t You, Lord?

“In his heart a man plans his course, but the Lord establishes his steps.”  (Proverbs 16:9)

She had just moved to a new city.  It could be any city.  Anywhere, USA. Once again, she was following her husband to the place of his new job.

“Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay.”  (Ruth 1:16b)

He is now settled and loving it.  She is… still wondering.  Who will she meet? What will she do?

Will she also wonder about Your deeper questions, Lord?  Questions that give our lives meaning far beyond the next job or city?  Questions only You have answers for?

“Who am I… really?”   and   “Why am I here?”

She had been reading two books on the plane.  I had been writing in my journal. Our conversation began after landing, as our plane made its way to the gate.

By Your Amazing Grace, Lord, some important things were said during that brief interlude.  Things that connected us… to each other and to You. An important conversation was started.

Will it continue?

She asked for my business card.  She did not have one for me, nor did she tell me how to contact her.  That’s when I stated the obvious:

“The ball’s in your court.”  Any further conversation we may have is completely up to her.

Funny that I would use that particular expression.  I don’t use it often.  Not so funny when I factor You in, Lord.  You have a way of prompting just the right words at just the right moment.

“The ball’s in your court.”  What better expression to use with the wife of a college basketball coach?   🙂

Maybe today will be the day she checks out my website and reads this blog post. Maybe that will confirm to her that You orchestrated our meeting, Lord.  For some Divine Purpose yet to be discovered.

And maybe that Divine Purpose has already been fulfilled.  Because I was there that day to plant a seed.  Or to water a seed planted by someone else.  A seed You will grow, Lord… whenever the time is right.

“I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow… For we are God’s coworkers…”  (1 Corinthians 3:6,9a)

Oh, Abba… Life with You is such an ADVENTURE!!!

Joyfully Yours,

Abba’s Girl
