Shout from the Roofs!

That’s the beauty of a platform… isn’t it, Lord?  Whatever is said is heard be a lot of people.

I guess that’s why You gave Your people the following command:

“What I tell you in the dark, speak in the daylight; what is whispered in your ear, proclaim from the roofs.”  (Matthew 10:27)

Pro golfer Zach Johnson just won the 2015 British Open today.  He has a huge platform.  Before today’s win, he was ranked #12 among professional golfers in the whole world.

Sports champions can use their platform to talk about anything.  So what is one of the things Zach said on international TV as he thanked You, Lord, for the talent You have given him?

He said he had been reading various Scriptures to himself throughout the week at St. Andrews in Scotland.  As he played the “Old Course,” declared to be the oldest golf course in the world.  Scriptures like this one:

“Lift up your heads, you gates; be lifted up, you ancient doors, that the King of Glory may come in.”  (Psalm 24:7)

Indeed!  🙂

Although this is only the second Major Championship won by Zach Johnson, he has won many others.  Yes… He certainly has a huge platform.

Here’s just one example — the testimony he shared with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes in Cleveland back on May 13, 2010.

“Before I was one, I always thought being a Christian would be boring.  In reality, it has been the complete opposite.  There is joy, fulfillment and even fun!  There also are challenges and trials, but knowing that my foundation lies in Jesus and what He has done for me is what is important.  It’s all that matters.”  (http://www.fcacleveland.org/fca/my-story-zach-johnson-pga-golfer/)

Bless him with a felt sense of Your pleasure tonight, Lord!  Because he is speaking in the daylight — and proclaiming from the roofs — what You are telling him.  What You are doing for him… and in him.

I don’t play golf.  I don’t play any major sport.  I have not acheived any national or international “win” that would have reporters putting their microphones in front of my mouth.  I suspect that’s true for most of us.  But that doesn’t change the Truth:

We each have a huge platform.  And whatever we say will be heard by a lot of people!

Our families.  Our friends and their families.  Our neighbors and their families.  Our coworkers and their families.  Fellow students and their families.  Fellow servants in community organizations we support.  Fellow church members.  The people we hire to help us with child care and house care and yard care.  The clerks we meet at WalMarts and grocery stores.  Our doctors and their staff members…

And even others yet to come….

“When you are brought before synagogues, rulers and authorities, do not worry about how you will defend yourselves or what you will say.  For the Holy Spirit will teach you at that time what you should say.”  (Luke 12:11-12)

“For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you… For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.”  So do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord…”  (2 Timothy 1:6-8a)

Is this yet another way You encourage us all, Lord, to become — by Your Grace — Champions of our Destiny???

Expectantly,

Abba’s Girl

The only time I watch any sports is when my son in law has the TV when I’m there. I was cooking but could see and hear what was happening today. What a blessing to hear this young man share his faith! He’s also known for his 3 Ps: Practice hard, Play hard and Pray hard!
