Seat Selection… Spirit Style!

I used to keep my calendar and contacts the “old fashioned” way.  Paper and pencil or pen.  Little post-its that were forever migrating to who-knows-where.  Like the socks that keep disappearing in the dryer.

Then I took a giant “leap” into the 21st Century!  (It only took me about 12 years to take my first real step in this direction.  No sense jumping in before other people get the “bugs” worked out… right)?   🙂

First, it was putting my contacts into my Smart Phone.  WOW!!!  Did this revolutionize my world… or what???!!!

Next, it was my trusty online CRM (Contact Relationship Manager).  WOW!!!  How much revolutionizing can my world take???!!!

Today, Lord, You reminded me — in the most precious way — that You are the Ultimate CRM!  And just when I think I have my calendar all set, You bring me a Divine Interruption that blesses my socks off!

Like today, when I was flying to New York.  On my way to speak at tomorrow’s Christian Women’s Conference.

I arrived at the airport in plenty of time.  My gate had been changed.  It was a commuter flight, so I thought it might be a smaller plane.

My real hope was that we could board the plane through a gangway.  It was pouring down rain and I wasn’t crazy about the idea of running through the rain to the plane.

Turns out, I had to get “crazy” about that idea after all.  Because that’s what we had to do.

So I ran — umbrella-less — and began to climb the stairs into the plane.  I was carrying my heavy computer bag, looking down at the steps to avoid slipping in the wet conditions.

That’s when I ran head-long (literally!) into the passenger in front of me.  Or rather, into the umbrella the gate staffer had loaned her.  We both apologized, laughed and went our separate ways.

Or so we thought.

She was assigned a seat a row ahead of me.  Another woman sat beside me.  Suddenly — I still don’t know how You pulled this off, Lord — she and my seatmate had switched seats.

Not on purpose.  It “just happened.”  HA!  It became obvious later that it was On Purpose after all… Your Purpose, Lord!

Our conversation was a blessing in so many ways.  As we landed and prepared to leave, I thought it might be the last time we would ever meet this side of Heaven.  How would we find each other again?  We had not exchanged business cards.  And it looked like our meeting would end that way.

“Be still, and know that I am God.”  (Psalm 46:10)

I had wondered, “Should I ask for her card?”  But I sensed You were up to something, Abba.  Maybe trying to teach me to wait on You so I can then follow… rather than running ahead of You to where You might not even want me to go.

So instead, I said in my spirit:  “Lord, if You want us to be connected in the future, for whatever reason, then please prompt her to ask me for my card.”

The plane was hooking into the gate.  We were about to deplane.  And suddenly, our conversation shifted.  And she reached for her purse, pulling out her business card.

And asking for mine.

I reminded her that she had been sitting in a different assigned seat.  But this must have been her real assigned seat after all.  🙂

She agreed and then joked, “After all, I DID hit you with my umbrella!”  I said, “Yesand it was RED!”  She looked at me with a funny expression and asked, “What’s the significance of the red?”  In a heartbeat, she realized the answer.

“This is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for the forgiveness of sins.”  (Matthew 26:28)

You had put us together, Lord.  And made Your Divine Orchestration abundantly clear.  Right down to the red umbrella!

 Any questions?   🙂

You can manage my calendar ANY day, Lord!!!   🙂

“In his heart a man plans his course, but the Lord establishes his steps.”  (Proverbs 16:9)

Amazed to overflowing,

Abba’s Girl
