Savoring the Leftovers

When cooking our “gourmet” meals, we often make enough for leftovers.  And often, they taste even better the next day, when all of the flavors have had more time to meld together.

You did the same for me this morning, Lord.  When You served me a delicious “leftover.”  Another mouth-watering “morsel” of insight, “left over” from yesterday.

Our crossing at the Canadian border looked like it would take hours.  We had been referred by U.S. border guards to a high tech area for a “scan” (x-ray) of our trailer.  But, suddenly, the plan changed.  We were told to do a U-turn and leave without inspection.  The border guard simply said, “You’re getting a free pass today.”

There was no apparent reason for our “free pass.”  There were numerous other RV’s parked nearby, undergoing inspections. But as quickly as we had been sent for inspection, we were given this “free pass.”  As a result, our border crossing took only minutes.

As You and I communed together this morning, You reminded me of my request to You yesterday morning.  I spoke it to You from my heart, as we made our way to the border:

“Abba, please make our border crossing whatever You want it to be.  Give us whatever experience You want us to have there, for whatever purpose You may have — to teach us, mold us, stretch us… whatever it may be.  And help me be an effective Ambassador for You, no matter what happens.  Just give me ‘eyes to see’ You at work there, Abba, so that I might praise You all the more.”

Wow… I guess Your answer to that prayer, Lord, was a resounding “YES”!!!   🙂   Why? Simply and sweetly to bless us?

“Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in Him.”  (Psalm 34:8)

Sometimes it’s just that simple… isn’t it, Lord?  Sometimes You just want to bless us.  Just because You can.  And because You love us — beyond all reason, beyond all merit, beyond all measure.

“I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.”  (Jeremiah 31:3)

“Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever.”  (1 Chronicles 16:34)
