You are the ROCK on which I stand… and the One who ROCKS my world! I heard a wonderful quote recently. It was attributed to John Piper in his book, The Pleasure of God:
“God takes great delight in putting His Name at stake in your destiny.”
Wow. That really rocked my world! Could it really be true?
To consider that You, the Creator and Lord of the Universe, would even think of me is miracle enough…
“When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have set in place, what is mankind that You are mindful of them, human beings that You care for them?” (Psalm 8:3-4)
That You would go to the Cross for me, knowing all I would be and do that would grieve Your heart, leaves me breathless…
“But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8)
But to stake Your Name — Your reputation — on me? On one You have clearly declared can do nothing apart from You (John 15:5)? One who still battles the vestiges of a sinful nature that hasn’t fully died, so I still don’t always do what I want to do, but what I hate, I do (Romans 7:15)? One who, despite all of Your Amazing Grace and Unfailing Kindness, can still get distracted and/or defeated (temporarily, that is) by the world’s glitter and/or the lusts of the flesh and/or the enemy’s schemes?
If You treated me as I truly deserve, Lord, I would spend eternity separated from You. But You don’t treat me as I deserve. For some Reason I will never be able to fully grasp or understand, You have determined to make me Your own… and to delight in me!
“… You are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of Him who called you out of darkness and into His wonderful light.” (1 Peter 2:9)
This I do tonight, Lord! I declare Your praises to all who will listen!!! And I declare my gratitude to You for rescuing me from the darkness and relentlessly transforming my life into a reflection of Your Light!
Rock of Ages: You are my Firm Foundation, tonight and forever. So, as I stand on You… Keep rocking my world!!!
