Prove Your Humanity

That’s what my computer said, as I tried to log on tonight.

It asked for my password, then issued a challenge to me:  “To prove your humanity, solve this.”  It was a simple equation.  5 + 2 = …  I guess the theory is a machine (or a monkey?) wouldn’t know (or be able to type) the answer.  If only it were that simple.

What does it take to “prove” our humanity, Lord?  The nightly news is full to overflowing with “proof” of what humanity looks like apart from You.

“The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure.  Who can understand it?”  (Jeremiah 17:9)

But it didn’t start out that way.

“God created mankind in His own image… male and female He created them… God blessed them and said to them, ‘Be fruitful…”  God saw all that He had made, and it was very good.”  (Genesis 1:27-28,31)

Then we fell for Your enemy’s oldest trick — tempting us to trust ourselves at the expense of trusting You, Lord.

“Did God really say…?  [Disobey God] and you will be like God…”  (Genesis 3:1b,5b)

So we did (disobey).  And ever since, left to our own devices, we have exploited humanity and developed “inhumanity” to an art form.  Yet, by Your amazing grace, You did not let the enemy have the last word!

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only Begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”  (John 3:16)

Maybe that’s the best way we can now “prove” our humanity, Lord — by admitting how very desperately we need You:  The One and Only Savior of the World.

“Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”  (Acts 4:12)

Oh, Lord… What a Priceless Gift!

“He who did not spare His own Son, but gave Him up for us all — how will He not also, along with Him, graciously give us all things?”  (Romans 8:32)

How can I (we?) ever thank You enough, Lord?!  Let me (us?) spend eternity trying!

“Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe…”  (Hebrews 12:28)

Yet another “equation” that sets us apart from machines and monkeys… !!!

Gratefully Yours,

Abba’s Girl
