Playing Spiritual Scrabble?

It took a whole year, Lord.

That’s how long I’ve been a member of the professional women’s networking group You led me to join in my home-away-from-home.

I attend fewer than half of the monthly meetings, because we are here less than half of the year.  When I am present, I make my 60-second intro and often contribute to the leader’s monthly conversation topic.

It is clear from my introduction, even my comments, that I am Yours, Lord.  Not in a flashy, heavy-handed kind of way.  More in a “state of being” kind of way.

Like breathing.

I am starting to connect more deeply with a few of the women.  Networking is a long process.  Not unlike planting crops… right, Lord?  Ground must be tilled and fertilized. Seeds planted, then watered.  Weeds removed.  And finally… the Harvest.

I have noticed one woman “from afar.”  I’ll call her “A.”  Her sense of humor lights up the room!  I have told her so a couple of times.  That’s been about the extent of our one-to-one interactions.

Yesterday, I met another woman for the first time.  I’ll call her “B.”  We connected immediately through the experiential leadership work she does.  Similar to work I used to do… and love.

We were engaged in conversation when Woman “A” walked in.  What she said surprised me.  “Two of my favorite people in the world have found each other!  I’m SO HAPPY!”

How did I go from so little personal interaction to a “favorite,” Lord?

“Let love and faithfulness never leave you… Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man.”  (Proverbs 3:3-4)

At her suggestion, the three of us sat together.  At one point, again to my surprise, she affirmed me to the whole group. Then she spoke eloquently about the devastating recent events in our nation, highlighting the murders in Orlando.

Murders that occurred in a gay bar.  A place where she said many in “her” community had simply gathered for fun.  She added: “I’m gay.  Maybe most of you knew that already.”

Maybe I was the only one who didn’t know.

My heart went out to her as she urged all of us to reach out to those who are different from us, including police officers.  To express compassion and support in these times of terror and loss.

When the meeting was over, she said, “I think we should get together for lunch sometime.” She meant the three of us — A, B… and me.  I heartily agreed.  We already have the date, after my upcoming weeks of travel.

The perfect timing for whatever You are “up to,” Lord.  Because You are always “up to” something… aren’t You?   🙂

Like a game of Spiritual Scrabble, perhaps?  Bringing A and B to C [Christ]… with D [me, Diana] blessed to be along for the ride?  🙂

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”  (John 1:1)

Spell-bound,
