My God… Who Hears & Speaks!

Once again, I cannot find a word to describe the magnitude of You.

Amazing?  Awesome?  Gracious?  Kind?  Passionate?  Powerful?

All of these are true.  But they fall so short of the mark.

Maybe we should embark on another national quest like the one in the 1960’s — Put a man on the moon before the decade is over.  This time it could be:  Create a word before the year 2020 to describe You, Lord.  A word that really does You justice.

You’re right… surely this will take an eternity!  Thankfully, we have all of eternity to try!   🙂

Why do words fail me this morning?  Because of what You did for me this morning, Abba.

I began my day in the darkness of my bedroom just before dawn.  I woke up at 4:44, with words of love for You on my lips.  Then I asked You a serious question on behalf of a dear sister-in-Christ.  She is struggling right now with the wounds of a lifetime.  Wounds that are soaking her pillow every night with tears.

As we communed and conversed in Your Presence recently, You spoke… encouraging her to make You her last thought before she sleeps and her first thought when she awakens. She asked me to send her some Scriptures to help her do this.

That was my question to You this morning, Abba… as I lay in my bed in the pre-dawn darkness.  What Scriptures should I give her, Lord, that will meet her where she is right now… and build her up in You?

And there, in the darkness, You began to speak.

The Scriptures came so quickly, I realized I had to get up and find a pen and some paper.  I didn’t want to miss a single one.  When I had filled up four pages, You began to speak song titles to me.

Songs of Love and Ache and Faith and Trust and Victory.  Songs of Hope and Healing.  All of them, Songs of Worship.  Songs that were clearly meant for this sister who is suffering… and for me, the servant You have called to comfort her with Your Truth.

You are the real Burden-bearer, Lord.

“Cast all your cares on Him because He cares for you.”  (1 Peter 5:7)

And often, by Your grace, You send us to each other to be a “touch” of You “with skin on.”

“Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.”  (Romans 6:2)

Thank You, Abba, for being right there for me this morning.  But how would You not be? You had been up all night watching over me.

“He who watches over you will not slumber; indeed, He who watches over you will neither slumber nor sleep.  The Lord watches over you — the Lord is your shade at your right hand; the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night.  The Lord will keep you from all harm — He will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.”  (Psalm 121:3b-8)

So I come back to my dilemma, Lord.  I could say this is all EVIDENCE of how Amazing, Awesome, Gracious, Kind, Passionate and Powerful You are.  But these words don’t really do You justice… do they?

Mary Poppins’ word — “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” — doesn’t “cut” it either.   🙂

[Deep sigh.]  Thankfully, Lord, You know my heart.  And my suffering sister’s heart, too.

So words are not even necessary… are they?

Full to overflowing,

Abba’s Girl
