“Miracle” Cure in Three Words

I have a friend who cuts right to the chase.

No color commentary.  No waxing poetic.  Just the bottom line, if you please.

My friend has a three-word prescription for almost everything in life.

“Get over it.”

Have a burden on your heart that’s hard to let go?  “Get over it.”

Have a perceived limitation of any kind (like fear of heights, getting motion sick in cars or any addiction)?  “Get over it.”

Nursing a grudge from a perceived offense from many years ago?  “Get over it.”

We were in a group of people the other night.  Almost everything anyone brought up invited this “Miracle” Cure in Three Words. So much so, we all started laughing hysterically.

It was ludicrous… right?  Life isn’t quite that simple… is it, Lord?

Or is it?

Maybe there’s more to my friend’s philosophy than initially meets the eye.  Maybe we could offload a fair amount of “baggage” if we all started choosing to “get over” a few things. Things we hold onto that don’t serve us or anyone else very well.

“And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive them, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins.”  (Mark 11:25-26)

“Do not quench the Spirit.  Do not treat prophecies with contempt but test them all; hold on to what is good, reject every kind of evil.”  (1 Thessalonians 5:19-21)

“But be very careful… to love the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to Him, to keep His commands, to hold fast to Him and to serve Him with all your heart and with all your soul.”  (Joshua 22:5)

Simple… right?

Maybe, at least for some things — even some important things — we make it more complicated than it needs to be?  I know what my friend would say.

“Get over it!”

🙂
