Making Way for The Best!!!

Whenever I type a word document on my computer, I’m always adjusting my margins.

As a person You have “gifted” with many words —  🙂  — I’m always reducing the margins down to 1/2 inch.  All the way around the page — Left, Right, Top, Bottom.  My reasoning seems sound enough:  I want to cram as many words as I can onto every page so I have fewer pages when I go to print.

You’re funny, Lord.  You’re doing the reverse in my life right now… helping me look for more Margins.

It started over the summer, when You led me onto this latest Transformation Road.  As You began to give me thoughts about Vision — where You want me to be in the future — You began waking me up at 4:00 AM.  Not just on an occasional day… but every day.

I began to understand what Martin Luther said so many hundreds of years ago.  He made a practice of spending the first hour of every day with You, Lord.  Whenever he knew he was going to have a particularly difficult or challenging day, he made it two hours.  I couldn’t imagine such a thing.

Until now.

You and I have been spending three hours together every morning… for eight weeks now. And I have come to treasure that time with You as much as I treasure the oxygen I breathe.

I’m praying with all my heart that this priceless time with You will continue.  So I have been looking for Margin.

What needs to come off my plate in order to have that time available to You?  How early do I have to go to bed to be fresh and alert enough when You wake me up, so I can be fully present with You?  How do my priorities need to be rearranged and reassigned?  What old habits have to go — those that conflict with this new lifestyle?  What new habits need to be developed — those that support and enhance this new lifestyle?

The feeling is not unlike the days when my term papers were returned by my college professors.  Back then, my goal was the fewest possible red marks.  Why is it so different now, Lord?  How is it possible that I could be so thrilled to have You, the Editor-in-Chief of my whole life, red-lining away to cut out all that is superfluous?

Maybe it’s because of all of the things that had crept into my life — or that I had willfully invited into my life — that had actually done more harm than good.  Things that had served as distractions.  Pleasant enough, at first.  Poisonous enough, at last.

Getting rid of The Bad.  Letting go of The Good.  Making way for The Best!!!

“Therefore… let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles.  And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.”  (Hebrews 12:1-2a)

I have just had the briefest “taste” of this new Encounter Elixir, Lord.  But this is one “addiction” I would love to have forever!!!

“Taste and see that the Lord is good.”  (Psalm 34:8)

Welcoming Your latest edits…   🙂
