Lord Who Unveils

What an amazing gift it is, Lord, when You give us “eyes” to see beyond The Veil.

There is a Reality all around us.  A Reality we usually cannot see with our natural eyes.  Our five senses will only take us so far.  We who are people of Faith know there is more — so much more — than we can see, hear, smell, taste and touch.  That “So Much More Place” where You are, Lord… along with Your angelic hosts and the enemies with whom they battle.  We know it because You have said so, Lord.  And we take You at Your Word.

“Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.”  (Hebrews 11:1)

But sometimes, You allow us to see beyond that Veil…and we are encouraged, emboldened and strengthened in our faith!

I remember a dear brother I knew years ago.  He and his wife were welcoming married couples to their farm on a regular basis, counseling them in rebuilding their marriages.  They knew You had called them to this work.  They knew the deep needs of the couples You were entrusting to their nurturing care.  They also knew the enemy was “hell-bent” on destroying those marriages. So they prayed and prayed and prayed that You would put a “hedge of protection” around their property, keeping the enemy out.

I will never forget the day he told me what You had allowed him to see.  He had been praying around his land one afternoon, in preparation for a gathering of the couples that evening.  The sun was setting over the fields.  And suddenly, for just about two minutes, the veil was lifted… and he saw these mighty angelic warriors stationed around the entire perimeter of his property. They were not the cute, winged cherubs we often see in TV commercials.  They were 8 or 9 feet tall, mighty and fearsome in appearance.  And they were stationed shoulder-to-shoulder… facing outward.  And then, they were gone.

How does one respond to such a revelation, Lord?  My friend had tears in his eyes as he described the scene to me… but, especially, as he described the wonder of Your gracious reassurance.

“Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, His body… let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings…”  (Hebrews 10:19-20,22)

It was not unlike how I felt today, Lord, when You sent someone over to me after our weekly prayer gathering.  He had seen and heard something by Your Spirit — something You had directed him to tell me.  Something I could never have expected to hear. Something that nourished me deeply, as if it was a double portion of manna from Heaven… to be savored and then “washed down” with a giant glass of Living Water.

How just like You it is, Lord — the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort — to correct me yesterday and then comfort me today in a way that would spur me on in the life race You have marked out for me!

“The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love… He does not treat us as our sins deserve, or repay us according to our iniquities.  For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is His love for those who fear Him…”  (Psalm 103:8.10-11)

One day there will be no more Veil.  We will look and see and know… like never before!

“For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face.  Now I know in part; then I share know fully, even as I am fully known.”  (1 Corinthians 13:12)

Longing for that day… !!!

“Occupying” fully until it comes…
