Lord of New Possibilities

Recently, I met a woman on Death Row.

Not the real Death Row reserved for people who have been found guilty of heinous crimes and are awaiting their execution. It was not even the “Death Row” we all experience prior to meeting You, Jesus, and embracing You as our Savior.

“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”  (Romans 6:23)

This was a different kind of Death Row altogether, but lethal just the same.  The kind of Death Row where prisoners’ chains lie useless on the floor because these prisoners have already been declared innocent.  If only they would see this… and believe it.

“If you hold to My teaching, you are really My disciples.  Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”  (John 8:31b-32)

The woman I met was INNOCENT — falsely accused of “crimes” which had brought her into the prison she now calls Home.  The Adversary has been accusing her for so long, her mind instinctively defaults to his judgments of her:

Unworthy.  Unable.  Unwanted.  Unwelcome.  Unaccepted.  Unacceptable.

Today, You gave me eyes to see her Reality — a beautiful Reality that has been there all along, yet has remained hidden by the Enemy’s LIES.

“He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him.  When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.”  (John 8:44b)

We can’t get from “here” to “there” with a snap of our fingers.  There is much “work” to be done for this dear one before she will be ready to appropriate the freedom You have already declared is hers.  But by Your Grace, Lord, something important happened today.  Today, as You gave me eyes to see her Reality, You gave her eyes to see New Possibilities.

A chink in the armor.  A crack in the wall.  A first ray of dawn’s light after the long, dark night.  A taste of HOPE.

I have a wonderful feeling that prison will soon need to be mothballed!

“Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.  It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.  Love never fails.”  (1 Corinthians 13:6-8a)

In awe of Your prison-breaking Love,

Abba’s Girl
