Light My Fire!

Like a pilot light in a windstorm… Sometimes, it’s hard to stay LIT.

I was with a precious brother-in-Christ today.  He is trying to be Your Light, Lord, within the organization where he works.  But it’s hard.  He has taken a stand about a significant issue facing his organization.  His position, grounded in Your Word, does not match up with the position of his boss, nor others who are senior decision-makers.

Their subtle disapproval of anyone who disagrees with their position turned to vicious ridicule today.  If words were sharp like spikes, today’s meeting would have been a crucifixion.

My friend is desperate for Your help, Lord… imploring You to either change his boss’s heart or to strengthen his own so he will stand for You, whatever the cost.  Even if the cost turns out to be his job.

“Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.  I will say of the Lord, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust… If you say, ‘The Lord is my refuge,’ and you make the Most High your dwelling, no harm will overtake you, no disaster will come near your tent.”  (Psalm 91:1-2,9-10))

How do we make You our dwelling, Lord?  Is it the amount of time we spend with You?  The quality of that time?  The quality of our trust?  Our  transparency in Your Presence?  Our sense of belonging?  Our passion for being with You?  Our eagerness to please You?  My friend needs these answers, Lord… because Harm and Disaster are circling nearby.

Mostly, he needs You, Lord… the assurance of Your Power and Your Presence — in Spirit and “with skin on.”

“I love you, Lord, my Strength.  The Lord is my Rock, my Fortress and my Deliverer; my God is my Rock, in whom I take Refuge, my Shield and the horn of my Salvation, my Stronghold.  I called to the Lord, who is worthy of praise, and I have been saved from my enemies.”  (Psalm 18:1-3)

“Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for He who promised is faithful.  And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another — and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”  (Hebrews 10:23-25)

Keep the pilot light burning, Lord… in my friend, and in each one of us.  Let the fierceness of storms not extinguish the flame… but only fan it into a mighty inferno of Your Spirit!

“For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you… For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.  So do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord or of me His prisoner. Rather, join me in suffering for the gospel by the power of God.”  (2 Timothy 1:6-8)

With glowing embers, awaiting Your breath…
