Let Victories Ring… Far and Wide!

Joe Holland Chevrolet — in South Charleston, West Virginia — is serious about selling cars. Their Mission statement includes tenets most of us would want to see guiding any business we frequent.

… longstanding tradition for quality products and services… being the best at taking care of our customers… provid[ing] a stable, secure workplace for our employees…

… striving for 100% customer satisfaction by treating customers honestly and fairly while continuously providing more than expected of us… [promoting] a workplace of excellence, growth and communication…   https://www.joehollandchevrolet.com/Mission-Statement

Reaching sales leadership in their community and earning a fair return on their investment…

… and a whole lot more.

Joe came to my attention through a news headline: Federal Court Victory for Faith-based Car Dealership in Challenge to HHS Abortion Pill Mandate. Here’s what happened:

Joe Holland, principal owner of this faith-based car dealership, is a Christian. He strongly objected to the federal government’s requirement that he provide insurance coverage for abortion-inducing drugs.

He couldn’t ignore (or defy) the law without incurring significant fines. So, Joe sought help from First Liberty Institute, Robinson & McElwee, PPLC, and the Family Policy Council of West Virginia to gain an exemption to this law.

Joe’s argument was based on the Religious Freedom Restoration Act, passed in 1993 to “ensure that interests in religious freedom are protected” as a matter of federal law.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Religious_Freedom_Restoration_Act

A powerful legal precedent was established when the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in the Burwell v. Hobby Lobby Stores, Inc. case in 2014. Hobby Lobby — another Christian-owned, closely-held business — was exempted from the Abortion Pill mandate.

Drawing on that precedent, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia entered a final judgment in favor of Joe and his company. Exempting them from having to include…

“… health coverage for contraceptive methods, sterilization procedures, and related patient education and counseling to which they object on religious grounds.”   https://www.libertyinstitute.org/pages/issues/in-the-pubic-arent/hhs-joe-holland

A legal victory, to be sure. But what intrigued me even more was the life victories Joe Holland Chevrolet is trying to bring about in their community.

Owners and employees donate time, money and other resources to familiar activities — school events, science fairs, spelling bees, Little League, food drives, churches, etc. But also one I had never heard about before.

The Silver Ring Thing (SRT).

And here’s where I became a fan of Joe Holland Chevrolet. Because, for the past several years, they have brought SRT  to the Kanahwa Valley twice.

What is SRT? A radical challenge to our culture’s views about love and relationships.

The Silver Ring Thing challenges teens to “defy the meet-up, hook-up, break-up culture of today and discover true life found in a relationship with Jesus Christ.”  https://www.silverringthing.com/

Check them out. Since 1995, SRT has reached nearly 700,000 people! The ring is an external symbol of an internal commitment before God to pursue purity and truth in all areas of life.

Because your body is not your own. And you were bought at a price (1 Corinthians 6:20).

Wow. What’s not to love?

You go, Joe!  🙂

What say you?
