Learning to Wait…

Sometimes You are way ahead of me, Lord.

“Before they call I will answer; while they are still speaking I will hear.”  (Isaiah 65:24)

I know the context of this Word is after Your return to Earth, Lord… when You create the New Heaven and the New Earth and come to rule as King of kings.  Even so, I have experienced this many times already, so I know it is true!

But sometimes, Lord, You are in no hurry at all… even when I am.

I must confess, I like it when it seems that You rush to finish my sentences or answer a prayer before I have even spoken it. Who wouldn’t?  For many years, before I came to know You, I considered myself a “make it happen” kind of person.  Of course, You (as the Almighty Lord of the Universe) take that phrase to another whole level.  (Understatement of the millennium???)  🙂

Tomorrow morning, our prayer warrior team will gather again in Your Presence.  Tonight, I was asking You to lead me to the praise songs You want us to sing.  I was feeling kind of tired after a very full day (week? month?) and was hoping You would just quickly download them to me via email or text.  Instead, You took six hours!

But then I realized:  How could I do anything but thank You, Lord?  I just spent six whole hours listening to praise songs and singing them to You from my heart!!!  What’s not to like?!

“From the ends of the Earth, we hear singing!  Glory to the Righteous One!”  (Isaiah 24:16)

Yes, it is now very late.  But I’m counting on You to do a supernatural work, giving me rest that far exceeds the hours I can sleep!

“Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.”  (Psalm 91:1)

“… they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength. They shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.”  (Isaiah 40:31)

I wouldn’t trade tonight for anything, Abba!  But maybe we could tweak that last one a little, just for tonight… i.e., they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their sleep… ???   🙂

xoxoxo,

Abba’s Girl
