Maybe I’ll think about that… tomorrow. That’s what the character Scarlett O’Hara said in the classic movie, “Gone with the Wind.”
But when does “tomorrow” get here? Today is where we live…. or at least, where we have the opportunity to live.
“This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” (Psalm 118:24)
I felt a little like Scarlett today. I had so many plans for today. So many “wish to do” and “want to do” plans. So many Good Intentions. But my “get up and go” got up and went.
I was busy enough. Mostly with things not on my original “To Do List” for today. Good things. Even “God things.” But some things that dropped off my list were really important.
An expression just popped into my mind about Good Intentions — how they often pave a road to a terrible place no one in their right mind would ever really want to go.
I looked up the word, hoping for insight… and found an unexpected clue. “Intention = an aim or plan; [medical] the healing process of a wound.”
Maybe that’s why so many Good Intentions remain undone: Because the wound hiding behind them is still in need of healing.
Maybe that’s why I’m so thankful, Lord, for one of the certainties I can count on about Tomorrow.
“Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail.. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness. I say to myself, ‘The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for Him.'” (Lamentations 3:22-24)
You will meet me, Lord, when Tomorrow becomes Today. With great love and unfailing compassion. With all I will need to make the most of the opportunity to LIVE. When I can say, once again, from my heart-of-hearts:
“This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” (Psalm 118:24)
