Just Ask?! Is It Really that Simple?!

One of my dear clients made an “offhand” remark two weeks ago.  She wanted to find a Bible study to help her stay focused on Your Word, Lord, during the summer months (since her study of choice — Community Bible Study — was about to take its summer break).  She said it almost in passing, as an afterthought… or so I assumed.

Until this morning.  We were scheduled to talk again today.  I knew the “homework” we were going to be reviewing would fill our time, so I wasn’t really looking for any other agenda items.  Then, out of the blue (!), I remembered her remark.  So I asked You the question, Lord:  “Is there any Bible study You would have me recommend to her?”

Your answer was so fast and so clear, it almost took my breath away!  Praying God’s Word, by Beth Moore.  I went to my bookshelf, wondering if I had a copy here.  (My books are now split between two states — Virginia and Florida — so I often look for a book and realize it is somewhere else.  Like maybe in the State of Confusion?!)  🙂

Today, I hit the Mother Lode!  Not only did I find my hardback copy of this very book, but I also found a totally unusued paperback copy!  An “extra” copy I must have purchased somewhere along the line.  Ordinarily, I would be inclined to think I had bought it without realizing I already had it.  But today, I realized the truth:  It was never an “extra” copy.  I bought it long before I had ever even met this client… for such a time as this.  Because it had her name on it!

The subtitle of the book is what convinced me:  “Breaking Free from Spiritual Strongholds.”  Because You have revealed to her the “Sweet Spot” she is made for — her unique and very personal Identity and Destiny.  The Life Purpose for which You hand-crafted her and called her by name.  And the people You are calling her to serve are struggling with one or more of these very strongholds!  Strongholds from which my client, herself, has broken free and is breaking free and will break free… all by Your Grace!

“We were under great pressure, far beyond our ability to endure, so that we despaired of life itself… But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God, who raises the dead.  He has delivered us from such a deadly peril, and He will deliver us again.  On Him we have set our hope that He will continue to deliver us…”  (2 Corinthians 1:8b,9b-10)

She could have filled her summer Bible study “hole” with a simple (and perhaps, superficial) devotional.  But instead, You have invited her into a penetrating Bible study that seems as if it were specifically designed with her unique God-given purpose in mind!  So that she will grow in her understanding and capacity to inspire, empower and bring hope to those women who are where she once was!

How You do such things, Lord, boggles my mind!!!  What if she hadn’t made that offhand remark?  What if I hadn’t remembered it this morning?  What if I hadn’t asked You about it?  But she did… and I did.  All because of You!

“In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.”  (Proverbs 16:9)

I can hardly wait to see what discoveries await her as she accepts Your invitation, seeks You diligently and follows wherever You lead!

“Call to Me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.”  (Jeremiah 33:3)

Overwhelmed with wonder,

Abba’s Girl
