Interruption Eruptions???

Interruptions usually drive me crazy.

I have heard a lot of them lately.  Most often, between political candidates on debate stages.  Two people vying for attention. Breaking into — talking over — each other’s remarks.  Because they want their own insights (and/or insults) to carry the day.

Trouble is, eventually most observers can’t hear anything at all… except noise.  Tempers flare and communication (relationship) melts down.  Maybe we should name such encounters “Interruption Eruptions”?

At best, eruptions are disruptive.  At worst, they are destructive.

“A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart.  For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.”  (Luke 6:45b)

“Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing.  My brothers and sisters, this should not be.  Can both fresh water and walt water flow from the same spring?”  (James 3:10-11)

Regrettably, this can happen between friends, too… even lovers.  And not just to people “out there.”  Long ago (and even now, at times) I also have “resembled that remark.”   🙁  Oh, Lord, I am so grateful for Your patience and perseverance with me!   🙂

“The Lord, the Lord, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, maintaining love to thousands, and forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin.”  (Exodus 34:6-7)

But sometimes interruptions drive me sane.

Like whenever Your Truth, Lord, “breaks into” my stinking thinking.  “Talking over” the lies I have given rent-free space in my head. Unlike earthly interruptions, Your heavenly ones are always welcome.  Making noise disappear.  Helping me think clearly.

Or like when I’m coasting down the wrong path, gaining speed, and Your interruptions break my momentum.  Like a bale of hay does at a go-kart racetrack.  Causing, perhaps, a “bump and bruise.”   (Far better than a “crash and burn”).

“For He will deliver the needy who cry out, the afflicted who have no one to help… He will rescue them from oppression and violence, for precious is their blood in His sight.”  (Psalm 72:12,14)

Oh, Lord… Your interruptions are indispensable.  Like today… when it seems I need them more than ever.

“Pay attention and turn your ear to the saying of the Wise; apply your heart to what I teach, for it is pleasing when you keep them in your heart and have all of them ready on your lips.  So that your trust may be in the Lord, I teach you today, even you.” (Proverbs 22:17-19)

Closing my mouth so I can better hear Your Voice,

Abba’s Girl
