Hope For The Helpless

When are voices of seeming confidence really just hollow whispers, Lord?  When the speakers have built their lives on quicksand… and don’t know it?

I was invisible to the speakers.  Their conversation had already occurred, in a teleseminar held thousands of miles away.  I was listening to a recording.  An eavesdropper on history, with no opportunity to intervene.

Listening to smart, talented, gifted people.  Gracious, kind, loving people.  “Spiritual” people who had found “their” way.

But not The Way.

“Jesus answered, ‘I am The Way and The Truth and The Life.  No one comes to the Father except through Me.'”  (John 14:6)

They each had their stories.  We all do… don’t we, Lord?

Stories of… Loss.  Loneliness.  Rejection.  Exclusion.  Confusion.  Trauma.  Abuse.

Stories of… Suffering.  Searching.  Healing.  Helping.  Growing.  Bonding.  Building.

They were people with some presence in the world.  I looked up their bios.  Noticed what they said.  What they didn’t say.  How they listened to their “source” (small s).  Trusted in their “Self” (big S).  Followed “the spirit” that guided them.

I could almost feel Your heartache, Lord.

Your longing for them to know the One who has imparted to them the very smarts and talents and gifts they now use to lead others.  But if their “source” is their “Self” or a spirit that is not Yours, Lord… where will their journey end?

“If the blind lead the blind, both will fall into a pit.”  (Matthew 15:14)

Oh, Lord… I’m so thankful our journey is not “over” until it’s over!  Your Love for us is unfailing.  And Your pursuit of us is unrelenting.  Maybe that’s why, as I listened to these dear ones today, my heart was filled with much more than heartache for their present reality.

My heart was filled with HOPE for their future possibility.

“‘Jesus, remember me when You come into Your Kingdom.’  Jesus answered him, ‘Truly I tell you, today you will be with Me in paradise.'”  (Luke 23:42-43)

Truth be told, it’s a miracle that any of us finds our way to You.. isn’t it, Lord?  It’s the miracle of Your Love.

Thank You, Lord, for not giving up on them.  Thank You for not giving up on me.

“I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.”  (Jeremiah 31:3)

How kind of You to do so, Lord.  Because we are all hopeless without You.  And desperate for You… even when we don’t realize it.

“I was blind but now I see.”  (John 9:25)

Trusting Your justice…

Grateful for Your mercy…
