Gratefully Seeing 3D!

The third “musketeer” had vanished.

I had named them last summer.  Three beautiful horses in a single pasture, not far from our house.  One white, one brown, one black.

I passed by there almost every day… and they were always together.  Not just in the same pasture, but together.  Side-by-side, whether grazing or frolicking or shooing flies.  All for one.  One for all.  Inseparable.

I still pass by that pasture almost every day.  Always greeting the Three Musketeers.  One more thing I thought I could count on… until about three weeks ago.

The third “musketeer” — the white one — was gone.

Maybe he was being exercised by his owner?  Maybe he was in the barn?  Maybe he was in another pasture for some special (and temporary) reason?  But then the days turned into weeks.  Still no sign of him.

My thoughts turned darker: Maybe he was lost?  Maybe the owner sold him?

Maybe he died?

So many “maybe’s.”  So I’ll add one more.  Maybe it’s silly.  I have never met these three horses personally.  But when I settled on the obvious conclusion — he is not coming back — I felt a real sense of loss.

Until today.

No, he didn’t reappear.  But today, Lord, You gave me eyes to see it all differently… and to remind me of something priceless.  Another “threesome” came to mind.  A threesome I know I can count on.

Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

“And He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”  (Isaiah 9:6b)

“Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name, Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.”  (Matthew 6:9-10)

“Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.”  (Luke 23:34)

“Jesus answered, ‘No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws them, and I will raise them up at the last day.”  (John 6:44)

“This is My Son, whom I love.  Listen to Him!”  (Mark 9:7b)

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”  (John 3:16)

“For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.”  (Mark 10:45)

“And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever — the Spirit of truth… the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.”  (John 14:16,26)

“… you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit… you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be My witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”  (Acts 1:5b,8)

Father, Son and Holy Spirit.  All for One and One for All.  Inseparable.

Always present — Never MIA (Missing in Action) — even though I can’t see You with my eyes.

“And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”  (Matthew 28:20b)

All-knowing — even though Your smallest thought can “blow my mind.”

“As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts.”  (Isaiah 55:9)

All-powerful — even, especially, when my own strength fails me.

“…[the Lord] said to me: ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness.”  (2 Corinthians 12:9)

Thanks to You, Lord, when I pass by that pasture tomorrow, I will see much more than two “musketeers.”
