“GOD EXISTS!”

I saw an awesome news clip today.  One that provoked that very declaration:

“GOD EXISTS!”

One car, sideswiped by another, rolled down an embankment and hit a pole… bursting into flames.  Amazingly, the driver was rescued with “non-critical injuries.”  Thanks to “Good Samaritans” and safety workers arriving quickly at the scene.

But the real jaw-dropper was what they found inside the burned-out car.  Only after the fire was completely extinguished.  The car was totally destroyed, its interior completely burned to ashes.  EXCEPT…

… for the driver’s Bible.

It was found on the passenger seat, completely intact!  Not even singed by the fire!  This “impossibility” caused one of those at the scene to exclaim:  “GOD EXISTS!”

Ya think?   🙂

You show up in the most amazing ways, Lord!  And no two ways are the same.  You tailor each one to the needs of those who will witness Your Presence.  Because no two of them are the same, either.

But it’s never really about making the 11:00 news… is it, Lord?  It’s about reaching the heart of one You love ever-so-dearly. Each one and every one.  At the very moment he or she is ready to consider even the possibility of You.

Like that night in 1986 when I got this “heart prompting” to go visit Mom.

I was in year two of my graduate MBA program.  It was finals week.  I was “up to my ears” in term papers and exams.  I had told Mom the previous weekend I wouldn’t be able to see her that week.  She understood.

Near the week’s end, however, I was too exhausted to work anymore.  That’s when the “heart prompting” came:  “Go visit her.”  So I did.

We spent three wonderful hours together that night.  Our simple dinner of fresh tomato sandwiches was delicious; our conversation even more so.  We hugged and exchanged our “I love you’s” as I left.

It was the last time I saw her.  She died, suddenly, the next morning.

Just as suddenly, I realized I had been given a precious Gift.  I didn’t know You, Lord, but that didn’t stop You from showing up for me in the most amazing and personal way.  A way that was unmistakable… and irresistible.

My first prayer wasn’t fancy… but it was real.

“Thank You, God, because I know this is from You.  I don’t know why You’ve done this.  I don’t know You.  I don’t think about You.  I don’t care about You.  I’m not looking for You. But I know this Gift is from You and I will always treasure it.”

“… the Lord longs to be gracious to you; therefore He will rise up to show you compassion.”  (Isaiah 30:18)

“I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.”  (Jeremiah 31:3)

Lost… but never forgotten.   Found… and forever Yours.

All this and more… because YOU EXIST!

“… anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him.”  (Hebrews 11:6)

Seeking You still,

Abba’s Girl
