From “Skunked” to SOARING!

We tried everything.  Every kind of bait.  Fresh shrimp.  Pinfish.  Artificials.  Every kind of technique. Drifting around a point, carried by the current.  Working the channel.  Testing the mangrove edges. Freelining.  Jigging.

And we came up empty.  Otherwise known as “skunked.”  Not a single bite.  All day.  Our big fishing trip, day before yesterday.

Maybe it was the weather.  It was overcast.  And windy.  We fought waves and whitecaps most of the day. Our “drifting” was so fast, we might as well of brought water skis.   🙂

The last day of Snook Season came and went.  Oh well… at least we tried.  One Lesson we learned long ago:  We’ll never catch anything if we don’t have a pole in the water.

We got home.  It was late.  Dark.  Raining.  We ran inside, ready to collapse.  But first, I checked my email.  And there it was… the “fish” You wanted on my line all along, Lord!!

Someone who’s hurting… a lot.  Someone who’s desperate for more of You.  Someone who “happened onto” this website while looking for help.

That’s when it hit me.

Isn’t this webstie a “pole” of another kind?  In the “water” of the Internet?  With its “bait” out there, 24/7?  What is its “bait” anyway?  Wherever You are concerned, Lord, it is always HOPE.

Most “fish” swim by this site without even noticing it.  Some stop, long enough to “eye” the “bait.” Maybe even nibble at it.  Others, if they get a taste of You, grab hold and don’t let go.

The dear one who sent that email decided to grab hold.  We’re going to journey together for a time.  You already knew that… didn’t You, Lord?  Long before I ever put this website “pole” in the water.  Since before You even created the world.

And she already knows:  I’m just the assistant.  You’re the Head Coach.  The Master Guide.  It’s You we are both grabbing hold of, as we journey together.

“But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.”  (2 Corinthians 4:7)

We can hardly wait to see what You have in store!

“No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love Him.”  (1 Corinthians 2:9)

Turned out to be a great day of fishing after all.

Why does this not surprise me?   🙂

“Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength… They will soar on wings like eagles…”  (Isaiah 40:31)
